Today, my coworker told me that her son has had a continuous fever since June. She said the fevers started mid March. They keep the fever down with ibuprofen. He doesn't have any other symptoms but does get tired when the ibuprofen wears out. She's been to a hematologist/oncologoist. He has blood checked weekly, He's been to an infectious disease doctor, ruematologist, audiologist, GI. Anyone have experience with continuous fevers? or what other docs she should see. There are so many rare conditions maybe someone knows something the doctors can't figure out.
TIA
Re: continuous fevers
Not that this is necessarily going to be helpful, but have they given the baby any antibiotics at all? I say this because my DD had a super high fever for almost 2 weeks once when she was about 4. I'm talking 104+ that was unrelenting and they kept running tests, strep tests, blood tests, blood cultures, mono tests and everything was negative eventually one of the docs prescribed antibiotics even though they did not suspect a bacterial infection at all and sort of did it just to see and within a day her fever was gone.
dd2 has a fever disorder called PFAPA however they come/go on a pattern, not continuous. The dr we saw for it was a immunologist, and the next dr we would see if need be would be the rheumatologist.
The only thing I would say from our personal experience would be to see a urologist and have some something done like a VCUG, we did not know that dd2 had reflux and even though she didn't have infections, since we started her prophylactic antibiotic she has not really had any fevers.
