I've been fighting this bill for almost 2 yrs now for something that wasn't authorized IMO. DD was on a heart monitor after birth, a few mo. later we switched insurance companies and the heart monitor was returned during that time. So the Dr. reviewed the monitor anyways which we got a bill for. I have one letter that states that we owe ZERO, but all the rest of the letters indicate a payment is due.
How do I handle this now? So freaking stressed over this, sometimes I just want to pay it and be done with it...but the other side says NO...I didn't authorize for him to do this!
Re: Medical bill went to collections...advice please
I had that happen, several years ago, when I had an emergency room visit. Ultimately, I paid for it, but I did it like $10.00 at a time, because I was so mad.
Looking back, I don't think the amount was worth lowering my credit score. You might try writing a letter with documentation from the physician, but if it is easier to pay for it, then you might consider doing that and then just letting it go.
The same thing happened to someone I know. She disputed the bill with the collection company. They sent the bill to a new collection company. She disputed the bill with that company. They sent the bill to a new collection company. She disputed the bill with that company. She never heard anything else about it but she had to wait the 7 years for it to get off her credit report.
It may be better to pay it. They'll probably offer you a lower payoff amount.
