Holy found money - credit card rewards and amazon

Today as I was paying some credit card bills I noticed my rewards points balances and thought gee, I wonder what I could get with those.  Typically I pretty much ignore the points.  While looking through the rewards site I noticed that I could link my points to my Amazon account and spend the points on Amazon.  By linking three cards' points I now have a whopping $600 credit with Amazon.  That will buy a lot of diapers!

This has really made my day.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • That is good! I only have a Citibank that has "thank you" points and I personally think it's not that great. Like 1500 points gets me a $10 gift card to Panera. So I spend $1,500 to get $10 of something. I mean it's something which is cool but it sounds like there are better rewards cards out there.

  • We have a Chase cards and used the points 2 years ago to pay about 90% of the costs of a trip to Disney (we renovated our kitchen, so we had a lot of points).  I used last years points to buy Christmas presents/GC and then the remainder of that and this years charges paid abourt 50% of another trip to Florida.

  • Nice! As a bankruptcy lawyer I pretty much hate credit cards.  BUT obviously if you can responsible with them they can be great with the benefits.  This makes me want to re-consider the way I pay bills and see if we should start using credit cards to get some benefits.
  • Score!  I need to go hunt down my points and see if they're worth something!

Do it sister!  We've been doing it for about 5 years now and we pay it off every month and just charge pretty much every damn thing we can - our cell, cable, car insurance.  Everything but our mortgage and gas bill goes though our Chase card.

  • Us, too. We put all of this and even daycare. There is an easy $1000+ a month. You get nothing back for writing a check!

  • ok my job tomorrow (while at work since my boss it out of town) is to find the best rewards card.  I hear Chase is good? I'm gonna do it.  It's been one of those things I've put off forever.
  • We do the same as PPs - charge all of our spending and then pay it off in full at the end of the month! We have both a Chase and Capital one card, both have great rewards. They have the same baseline, but I believe Capital One gives more cash back for gas/groceries and Chase gives more cash back for certain categories that change every quarter. Dh will tell me "use the chase card on restaurants this month!"

it's basically a discount bc we just apply the cash back to our bill before paying it at the end of the month. nice!

Chase is great.  I believe I earn 1% on all transactions.  Each quarter you also earn an additional 5% on certain things (up to $1500).  LIke in the summer months you get the extra 5% on gas (and a few other things) which is huge for us because we go boating like every weekend!  There was one month alone where we earned $100 because we charge everything (except groceries and mortgage).  I usually get a "credit card credit" every month but I may start using it as a savings for Christmas and our yearly vacations!  GL!

  • I have discover but Amazon won't let you use the points on subscribe and save purchases do they allow any of the other company cards points for those items?  I used my discover points for christmas last year.  This year I was able to turn them into gift cards which gave me $20.00 extra free money (basically buy $25.00 gift cards for $20.00 woth of points) andI  hardly paid anything for DD's area rug for her new room it was great.  Like others I pay my cards off monthly.
