blood pressure scare!

Hi ladies, so I went in for my checkup yst and my bloodpressure was 160/100 whoa! It was high the time before that also but went down when I layed on my left side.this time however it didn't so my dr sent me over to the hospital to be monitered,it did go down to normal and i had my urine checked for protein and bloodwork done for toximia, both came back negative for anything wrong thank goodness! However if it continues to be high they may pull me out of work, which will raise my stress because then I won't have an income and hubbys paycheck won't cut it..ahh! They said it sounds like it was just nerves, which I hope it is..Anyone else have this happen and everything work out ok? Any tips to calm my nerves and keep stress down? I get quite nervous when somthing might be wrong with baby,I can't help it ..thanks guys!

Just keep an eye on it, and everything will probably be fine, but MAKE SURE your OB is watching it, and pay very close attention for any symptoms of pre-e you may have.

Agree, hopefully it was an anamoly, but you definitely need to be careful!  I developed pre-e at 34 weeks.  It came on suddenly and quickly, with no other BP issues in the pregnancy or before pregnancy.  I ended up having DS1 at 35 weeks due to it.  If you have any serious swelling, headaches, or vision blurring, please let your doctor know asap.  And definitely take it easy as much as possible, lay on your left side, etc.  Good luck!  I will send positive thoughts your way!

Please, please keep a close eye on it.  It may be worthwhile to pick up a home blood pressure monitor to keep an eye on it yourself (I got one at CVS when I was pregnant with Jack, I think it was about $25.  Worth every penny).

I had some high BP problems with Jack and was eventually taken out of work.  I went into labor at 38 weeks with him, but there was already significant protein in my urine and, according to my peri, if I had been pregnant for another few days I probably would have wound up with pre-e and an emergency c-section.  Just keep an eye on it, and everything will probably be fine, but MAKE SURE your OB is watching it, and pay very close attention for any symptoms of pre-e you may have.

This exactly. Pre-eclampsia (toxemia is the old name) is nothing to mess around with. I definitely think you should get a BP monitor for at home. I don't mean to scare you, but if the doctors think you need to stop working and go on bedrest, then that's what you need to do.

  • You might be able to get Short Term Dissability. Talk to your HR today if you can. since it is pregnancy related, and you will have a dr's note it should work. Again ask your HR. If you get it it will probably be only 66% of your normal paychck.

  • I agree with PPs that you should get a home monitor and keep an eye on it. I developed high blood pressure very early on in this pregnancy and my OB eventually put me on meds for it, twice a day. Like the other ladies said, it puts you at a higher-risk level and your OB will want to monitor you more frequently. Due to mine, I have an ultrasound every 3 weeks and checkups every 2 weeks.

  • i had high bp yesterday at my appt.. and i got sent home with a nifty bp machine. i was sent home to rest and also going to be closely monitered. ive never had high bp i usually run 90/60 throught past pregnancies and yesterday it was 140/132 the doc almost had a cow. but thank god no protein and no toxemia either...this morning it was 128/95 so thank god it was lower but we will be taking it one day at a time..

  • The dr told me to take it every other day and if it is over 140/90 to call them,so my mother in law will be helping with it..I take my pressure pretty much everyday at work an its always within limits,so I'm not sure why it spiked so much but I will keep a close eye..
