I used this in an email to my ILs when I was telling them about my ultrasound appointment yesterday. I said "S/he will be born the week of June 3rd" since we obviously don't know if it's a boy or girl yet. Neither of my ILs had ever seen that used before. I'm not crazy - you guys know this and use it. Right?
It's not common, but I have seen it. I usually see "Baby Lastname will be here the week of June 3rd" more often if the parents aren't finding out the sex.

I think I adopted it from my mom. She's a nurse and always used her med note speak in notes/emails to us. I just thought it was funny that they commented specifically on never seeing it before, as if I made it up
Re: S/he?
Well nothing Except I wasn't trying for an alternate to "it." It's just what I happen to use and they seemed amused by it
HA!!! I use it!

I've only seen it as s/he on TB. Otherwise it's (s)he.
I use both.
With my babies, I sometimes used "shims". That brought people all kinds of glee.

OMG. DH and I use "shims" all the time! Just not in front of other people, lest they think we're stupid :-p I love it though - it's so cute.
I feel like I've just found soulmates. I never would have thought other people had such a fondness for this word
