SO Taken by Rescue

Title: SO Taken by Rescue

My SO has had back problems for months now. He has 2 ruptured discs and nerve damage and the specialists he's seen haven't done much for him. He had an epidural steroid injection 3 months ago which only made his pain worse. The doctors keep throwing pills at him but nothing helps.

Tonight he decided to lay on the floor to try to get his back straightened out and he couldn't get back up. They just took him by rescue. I'm hoping they will actually admit him and maybe even go for the surgery they have discussed. It's our last resort option but if that's what it takes I hope it will help.

Our financial situation isn't great right now and I am willing to find work to help us out while he heals as he will likely need time off work. I called my former employer the other day and he might be able to throw some hours my way.

I'm worried about him. I hate seeing him in pain knowing there is nothing I can do for him. I just needed to tell someone. Thanks.

  • Ouch. Back pain is no joke. I have serious back pain from an accident almost 3 years ago and it was really difficult during pregnancy when I could have no treatment. I hope he gets better soon!

  • Hope he gets some relief soon!  Has he tried PT?  I only ask b/c I'm a physical therapist and I know how painful & debilitating back pain can be, especially w/ known disc issues...we can't help everyone, but can occasionally manage it enough to avoid surgery.  That said, the surgery is usually very successful so if he has to go that route it may be for the best.  Good luck!

  • Thanks all for the kind words. He's tried seeing a chiropractor with not much relief, but no PT. To PP who experienced back problems during pregnancy, I'm sorry to hear that! I couldn't imagine having to deal with that on top of all the normal pregnancy pains and symptoms.

They gave him some morphine and send him home with instructions to follow up with his regular doctor. BFD. His doctor will just tell him to go see the specialist. Again. Not a very climactic end to the story but that's all that happened.
