Bottle Recs

What are your favorite bottle brands? I know each baby is different but what do you recommend getting to start out? There are so many to choose from.

 TIA!

Re: Bottle Recs

  • We started with playtex drop ins. But L was having lots of gas and burping issues so we moved to Dr Browns (wide). To go from drops ins (easy cleaning) to Dr Browns with more pieces to wash sucked but Dr Browns helped her burp better and quicker.

We had Avent, Born Free and Dr. Browns when DS was born.  Eventually we moved to all Dr. Brown's since DS seemed to get gassy with the others.

These 3 brands seem to be the most popular.  I have 3 of each and after we decide which one we are going to go with, I will buy more.

  • We started with Tommee Tippee bottles, but Aria had terrible gas issues with them. We switched to Playtex Ventaire on the suggestion of a friend, and we love them! We've had nothing but good experiences with the Ventaires. Some people say they leak, but if you assemble them correctly, (make sure the bottom rubber guard "clicks" into place) you won't have issues.

  • We always used Avent and they worked great

  • We used and loved Tommee Tippees.

My bottle strategy was to pick the ones that seemed easiest to clean first. If that didn't work, go to a more complicated/more parts to wash bottle. Luckily, the first thing we tried worked, and I loved being able to get my hand and sponge down in the bottles without having to scrub with a bottle brush!

  • I remember staring at the bottle section at BBB when registering and almost breaking out in a sweat. For some reason, that section just completely overwhelmed me!  But, someone recommended Dr. Browns and so I blindly went with that. They've been great!  DS has never had a gas issue.

  • I've heard a lot of great things about Dr. Brown's, however, a common complaint is that there are so many small parts to clean.  I purchased a few of each of these: Avent Naturals, Tommee Tippee, and Playtex Ventaire.  We'll figure out which ones LO prefers when he gets here.

  • Thanks ladies, I never knew picking bottles would be so difficult. After picking a brand then you have to pick glass or plastic....ughhhh

  • I am paranoid about things leaching from the plastic bottles.  They seem to be BPA free now, but what chemical will someone realize is a problem next?  We're going with the glass Avent bottles.

  • We started with Dr. Browns and then switched to Playtex VentAire. We liked the Dr. Browns, but we were having trouble with BFing. In attempting to get our son to latch properly, the lactation consultant suggested Playtex VentAire because they are wide and have a true slow flow nipple, which most bottles do not.

Make sure you check with your provider if your child will be in daycare. Ours won't allow glass bottles.

Why on earth won't they allow glass bottles? I use only glass Dr. Brown's. The ones I send to daycare I put silicone sleeves on. Those puppies are not going to break easily. My daycare also washes them for me, so I am double lucky :)
