Baby Bjorn for Plus Sizes..

FI is very excited about our very first baby and is looking forward to carrying LO in a baby bjorn type carrier. However, I am concerned about finding one that would fit him comfortably being that he is a big guy! (wears a 3XL). Would I have to order one online? Is there a brand that makes larger carriers? TIA ladies!

Re: Baby Bjorn for Plus Sizes..

  • I know some people love their Bjorns, but a lot of the baby wearing community warns against the use of carriers like that because they do not properly support the baby's hips, nor do they provide adequate support for the wearer, especially when the baby gets bigger.

I'd recommend the Ergo carrier, which provides better support for both baby and parent. I think the Sport offers longer straps in order to accommodate bigger wearers.

You can also get an extender for the Ergo.

Everything I have read says stay away from the Baby Bjorns.

  • Skip the Bjorn.  They don't sell it in bigger sizes and it isn't a really good carrier for babies.

The Ergo is great and you can buy an extension buckle.

I agree with PP. Someone gave me a Baby Bjorn for free. It sucked. I heard not to use the Baby Bjorn because it hurt people's backs once the baby got 15lbs+ but it already hurt my back when baby was like 10lbs. I used it 2x and bought myself an Ergo. I am a size 20 and it fits me fine with plenty more room left on the buckles.

  • Look into Beco carriers.  They can front carry facing out.  DH is a 3x and we have a Beco Gemini and he can wear it without an extender.
  • Another vote for Ergo plus extender. SIL uses the extender and LOVES the Ergo.

  • I would recommend an Ergo.  And they sell an extender.
