So I'd love some opinoins... I don't know what decision to make about colors.
I'm very lucky that my mother in law is buying our baby furniture so we're going with Pottery Barn Kids. A pottery barn designer came over yesterday and made the following recommendations.... for our baby GIRL nursery. I am for sure about the bedding and furniture choices, but am debating on the color of the furniture. He recommends the nursery being pink, beige and dark brown.
1. We will keep our carpet and walls a BEIGE/KHAKI color
2. Buy the "Larkin" crib and changing table in dark wood, ESPRESSO color (fyi- both pieces of furniture transition into regular furniture, a headboard and dresser, so we're choosing something for the long run)

3. The sleigh glider in ESPRESSO with KHAKI cusions
3. Then the Penelope nursery bedding in PINK, BROWN AND KHAKI
So... thought i liked his idea of going with dark furniture because the room is so beige, and he thinks the espresso color will look better in our house. I also really like espresso colored furniture in general. I think the colors will be great together, but I now i'm debating if i want to commit to dark furniture in a girls room. I just associate girl furniture with white... Any thoughts? Has anyone done dark furniture for their daughter?
Re: Espresso colored furniture for a GIRL?
Ours too! It's just our preference, DH and I are not furniture people.

This.
We have a girl and she has espresso furniture. Our house furniture is the same and I didn't even think twice about getting white because it's not my style. I had a few people ask/suggest I get white. I don't like it so why would I get something I didn't like? Get what YOU like. This is only the beginning of people's opinions on what they think you should do...
FWIW - I think the bedding that was selected and the espresso will go nicely together. We have the PBK mini dot in lavender with our espresso furniture.
I never once thought there was a "right/wrong" color furniture to have for a boy or a girl.
I chose white for our son's room because it looked good in the room.
Do what looks best.

I would get whatever you envsion for your baby girls room. Personally I like white better for my baby girl's room and this is coming from someone whose entire house is filled with dark expresso furniture.
I think the choices he recommended do look nice, but if you want white get that.
I ordered the PBK kendall crib in white with the harper bedding in aqua. and I"m doing pink accents.
Did you envision a certain color scheme for your girl's room? certain colors look better with white/ expresso. I like the over all look he chose, but if you aren't feeling it don't feel pressured just because the PBK guy said so!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I think the pottery barn guy was 100% right that the dark furniture looks better asthetically but I just need to decide what I want.... either a softer more feminine look with the white or something more bold with the brown. It's just an expensive purchase so I'm taking a while to decide!
We have espresso and we are having a girl. We like the darker colors and I thought espresso would work well now for a girl, work well later if we have a boy and I also think espresso colored furniture grows well and since we got a convertible crib I thought that was important.
We are making the room lighter with pink bedding and white framed pictures.
