I'm trying to figure out if I need to drop a nap. She normally goes down for her first nap about 2 horus after she wakes up, but her second nap is a struggle. A lot of times she just sits there talking to herself for hours if I let her. I'm wondering if we need to start the transition.

My DD does the same thing! I was just thinking today that we may need to just drop her second nap.

I'm just conflicted because she goes to sleep so easily in the mornings! I feel like she is obviously tired. I can't see trying to keep her away until noon or 1 when she falls asleep so easily at 10. THe afternoons are just ridiculous though. She sits up there for FOREVER and sometimes doesn't fall asleep until 4 or later. Sometimes I just get her up and put her to bed early. It's getting old though! Maybe we'll ahve to try the one nap

This is DS exactly! I wonder the same thing... guess it doesn't hurt to try, maybe go for a walk when she starts getting tired in the morning and push it back just an hour... I think I will try it and hope he sleeps longer.
When DS dropped down to 1 nap he was just 12 months old. So it is normal. I don't think DD will go to 1 nap until 1.5 years old! She is just now going to 2 naps...and fighting that!

We go back and forth right now. It wasn't cut and dry with ds either. I just follow her lead and let her nap when she wants, and if she gets two naps then ok.

DS will usually only take one good nap in the morning (by good I mean 1 1/2 - 2 hours). Sometimes he will nap for 30-60 minutes in the afternoon but not always. He only gets about 12-13 hours of sleep in 24 hours. We've tried everything, and he just won't nap unless he wants to.
We've been down to 1 nap/day since DD was 9 months. She dropped it herself and I really miss having her nap 2x/day. I feel like I can't get anything done anymore.
I'm trying to get DD to take a shorter nap in the morning if she does nap, in order to protect the afternoon nap. If she only gets one morning nap she is a disaster by 2pm. Some days she'd happily nap for two hours in the morning but then refuse to nap in the afternoon, so I've been trying to keep the morning nap to one hour or less.
However lately, she is refusing the morning nap some days, which means the afternoon nap is at like noon and then she goes to bed an hour earlier (so like 6:30 or so) and then sometimes sleeps well til 6:30 and other times is up at 5am.
It's all kind of a crapshoot right now. I hate when we have some place to be and she doesn't get her morning nap and is a crabby mess for our activities.
I think DD is in the process of dropping her second nap. Right now she gets up at 6:30 when my husband leaves and is usually down for her first nap by 9:30 at the latest. she'll sleep till 11:30 ( at the latest ) then ill want to go down for like a 20 minute nap between 2-4. I'd much rather her take one big long nap but am not quite sure how to go about it all.

DD will be 11 months on Friday and lately I think she's been ready to drop to one nap. she really fights me on her morning nap these past few days. I have a 3-day weekend next week so I may try not forcing the morning nap to see how she does. Or I'll just tell daycare to experiment.
