Silly WWYD- Baby names

*Disclaimer: This has very little importance. It's just for fun.*

Last night DH and I came up with a couple of girls names that we really like. They are both fairly uncommon (~600 on the SSA list). One I like a teensy bit better than the other.

This morning at daycare I saw the name written on someone's artwork outside the classroom, meaning one of the other kids in daycare/pre-school has that name. I have a feeling if I tell DH about it he will count the name out, even though our daughter will only go to this school for daycare. (He has already counted out the name Amelia because his second cousin just named his daughter Mia.)

Do I tell DH I saw the name at daycare?

No I probably wouldn't tell him.  If he sees it one day then just act like its news to you.

I'm on your husband's side- if I saw the name, I would be less likely to use it. So I'm not sure what I'd do in your position, because typically I would be the one axing the name. Stick out tongue

    Nope!

Dh and I both fell in love with the name Emma when I was pg with #1 (it was the only name we both agreed on), Did I tell him it was the name of my exfiance's cousin? NOPE!

See, I am usually like this, but only with friends/family or people she would be going to school with. Which is why I'm leaning toward not telling him. Smile

Also, this is so random, but the name that started us talking about baby names yesterday was your DD's name. I absolutely love that name but he had never heard of it. He decided he didn't like "liese". Do you say it "Anna" or "Onna"?

I have to take any advantage I can because MH's standard response is we can't name her that I knew some ______ with that name and they sucked.

    "Anna". :)

Ironically, even though DD's name is very uncommon around here, I met a lady the other day with an Anneliese who is only a couple months older than DD- and since we live in a small town, they will likely be in the same class together at some point. Go figure. Smile

No way, Jose! lol especially because it's one little girl, not half a dozen... unless you meet the little girl and she turns you off from liking it.

Can I be nosy and ask what the two names are? Big Smile

Usually I would say no (firmly in the "avoid other people's opinions" camp), but it really doesn't bother me that much with internet strangers.

We are both of very German heritage, and would like a traditional German name. We are considering Elsa and Greta. Greta is the name I saw at daycare. I've never even seen that kid though so I'm assuming she's in 3 yr old preschool.  We are a little worried that Elsa is too close to Mayella (DD#1's name), but 80% of the time we call her May, so I think they are different enough.

Which just proves PPs point that finding the perfect name that is completely unique to your child can be completely fruitless...it is what it is though! Obviously there are worse problems to have!

And I just noticed this, Hazel is another name we have strongly considered. So uh...let me know what you plan on naming baby #3....chances are good I'll like that one too...

Aww- I think Elsa is particularly adorable.

I'm in the 'avoid other opinions' camp too, but what else is the internet for, if not to share those things we can't with family/friends, for the sake of our own sanity?Wink We'll definitely be mum on names too though- I'm hoping it'll be easier with being Team Green (we can pull the 'oh, but we have twice as many names to consider and just can't decide anything!' card) but MIL is pushy so we'll see. Ha.

    So true.

People will be annoyed enough that you're Team Green (seriously, it really makes people mad) that some of them won't even get to the point where they ask about names. I used the "we've got some in mind, but not for sure" for a long time. Eventually people stop asking and just figure you're smug. Like this video.

I wouldn't tell my Dh. Like a pp said, it's only one girl, not a bunch. Your secret!

Also, I really like both your name choices. I prefer Elsa over the two but think you're right in thinking its too close to DD's name.

I would say don't tell, but I'd tell my H just cause I have a big big mouth. Sometimes I talk to my mom and she's like hunny how did I not teach you sometimes it's best to not tell your husband everything? I can't help it though

I know you didn't ask but I just thought I would say that Hazel is such a beautiful name! I have probably heard it before but didn't really think of it until you said it!

Also to answer your original question:  I would say "don't tell him" but I know that I personally would tell my husband if I remembered. Most likely I would forget about it though because of pregnancy brain lol.

Haha! Our girl name for #3 is a totally different style- Luna. FWIW, I love both Elsa and Greta, but I like Greta a lot more. So I wouldn't tell your husband. Wink
