I voted stuffing! It is my husbands favourite dish for Thanksgiving. Oh and I'm Canadian... wonder if we call it different things like the whole soda vs. pop. (Or maybe those differences don't exist.)

I think calling it dressing is a southern thang? I don't know, I never heard that until I moved south, so that's a guess.
I'm from the midwest and I call it dressing. I don't know many people who do, though. I think it's from my mom's side of the family, but they're not southern, either.
Technically speaking, I agree with Lancy about the in the bird=stuffing, outside=dressing. But we never cook it in the bird, because my mom was always paranoid that we'd get sick from it, so it was always dressing.
I'm in Alabama, and my Ohio-born mother is the only person I know who makes stuffing. I like stuffing, but dressing is a staple at all of our holiday get-togethers and it's super yummy!

Good heavens. The Indiana girl will clarify:
Stuffing is cooked IN THE BIRD.
Dressing is cooked on the stove/in the oven.
I have spoken.

I never heard of it being called dressing before. So does that mean that "Stove Top Stuffing" needs to change it's name?

That, is stuffing...looks much different than dressing.
And I'm from the south, so this southerner will speak...we don't "do" stuffing down here, lol.
See, this is dressing...looks much different...

jmccall - ew, that looks gross.

I agree. Lancy, we can agree to disagree about politics, religion, etc. but on this you are just WRONG!
I agree with jmccall! They are two separate and distinct dishes!
OP's picture is definitely stuffing.
