Britax Marathon Users

We have 2 britax marathons one in each of our vehicles one in a Crossover and one in a small car.  We are using the versa-tether as recommended (it goes kind of around the seat on both sides and attaches to a tether point) and have both seats rear facing.  The one in our car is especially annoying with the tether as it crosses almost exactly halfway through his body when I am trying to put DS in and out of his seat in the crossover it is slightly less annoying.  My husband recommended unhooking the tether every time we put him in and out of the seat but that seems like a lot of work.

Has anyone figured out a better method for this?

I read that its main purpose is to identify in an accident whether the seat is still functional.  Not sure if the tether itself even provides any additional safety features.

I have 4 marathons and have no idea what tether you're referring to. I use the latch connectors and call it a day. The seats are rock solid.

Same here.  No tether.  Just the Latch.

The tether made it super awkward in our car (smaller hatchback).  We just use the latch.  I'm very comfortable with this...super rock solid!

  • I thought you were only supposed to use the tether when the seat was forward facing.
  • We had our car-seats inspected, and she said the tether is optional.  We used it for awhile and then stopped because it was in the way.

  • My cousin has her son's tethered to the driver seat down by the floor. Her son is rear facing. They drive a Dodge 4door truck

  • Thanks everyone!  I was wondering if it was optional.  I might retread the manual to see the options.  Thanks again!

  • Ours is tethered on the floor on the passenger's side.  From what I remember reading there are 2 options to tethering rear facing, one would be to swing it up and tether it where you would tether if it were a forward facing, but you can tether it to the floor as well.  Although admittedly it's been a while since I've installed the seat.

I know there is a way to tether on the floor but I don't think either of our cars have places to tether it to the floor, unfortunately.

All cars should have a place to tether on the floor. I thought ours didn't either but I watched a video on you tube and they just tether it to the track the seat is connected to (the one that makes it slide front and back). We tethered ours there and it does not impact whether we can move the seat at all. .

  • Do not tether a rear facing seat to a forward facing tether point.  It needs to be tethered in front of the seat for it to work properly.  Your seat should have come with a d-ring on a strap.  Loop the strap around the seat track in front of the carseat and clip the tether to the d-ring.
