Advice on small room

Hello all. Just need some advice. My son just turned two and sleeps in a toddler bed. We have a two bedroom home with a large master bedroom and very small second bedroom. We don't really want to have to move till our son is around 5. The baby is going to share our room for about 3-4 months...I just need some space saving tips on how to fit both his bed the crib and his dresser in his room... Any advice and tips are much appreciated!! :)

Room is appx 10'X7'

  • I would try one of those websites that help you try different layouts based on the measurements, hgtv has one. Pintrest has great organization tips to maximize drawer and closet space.

  • Have you thought about switching the kids to the bigger room? Or adding a room if you have a basement?

We live in a two bedroom split and before we decided to finish our Lower half we were just going to move our stuff into the smaller room because we really dont "need" the bigger room. That way the kids will have more room to play and be comfortable.

  • Mini crib?

Remaking the closet into a nook for the dresser so you have more free wall space?

  • Is there a reason both your kids need a dresser rather than just sharing one? Also, is it a tall skinny one or a long short one? You could go with a chest of drawers (tall skinny) rather than a dresser (long and short) and use it for both to save room.

I posted a very similar question a few months ago b/c I for the life of me couldn't figure out how to get all the furniture for the nursery in a tiny 9x7 room, and someone gave me this link:

It's a free download that will let you set up your room however you want and it really really helped me out.

  • We have a small house altogether - about 850 sq ft total.  All I can say is, a little wall shelving goes a long way!  We're planning on putting clothes in cloth bins on the shelf rather than a dresser...it's tough to find solutions sometimes, and we'll see how long we can make ours work...!

  • We have smaller rooms as well and have to do some thinking about sleeping arrangements! We can't/won't decide until LO is here since we don't know the gender. We have a huge room over the garage that we use as the playroom, but my DS doesn't want to go up there alone. A great suggestion is either puta tall dresser in the closet or buy some of the hanging shelf organizers for the closet and put clothes in them. This is what we did recently since I have to have both boy and girl clothes to start out. It saved so much room and space, plus let's me still use the closet! They do make mini cribs as well that will save some space. Hope you can find something to help!!

  • While this is baby #1 and we don't have to worry about space too much yet, when putting her room together it got me wondering how the heck I plan to put 2 kids in there in the future. One thing we are thinking since we have a big room is keeping baby #2 in there longer and also likely putting their dresser in our room instead (we don't have one, we just use closets).
