How is nap time?

DS is refusing to nap! He is so tired and cranky though, I know he needs a nap. We have been doing the same routine for a few months now: wake at 7:00am, nap at 12:30 or 1:00 and bedtime at 8:00. Today he just cried for an hour (with me checking in every 10 minutes) I finally got him up and this is the second time I have tried laying him down (about two hours later) and its looking like he won't sleep this time either. I am so frustrated and feeling like a horrible mom and to top it off I am 7 months pregnant and exhausted and just need half an hour to put my feet up and not be chasing him.

Re: How is nap time?

  • This happened to me every time I was completely exhausted and needed a nap myself DD would refuse to nap. On the worst days I would do whatever it takes to put DD down. Going for a walk in the stroller or a car ride would usually put her to sleep. It was too hot outside for a walk so I would just push the stroller around the house until she fell asleep. I hope he goes to bed early tonight and is back to his normal routine. Good luck with the next 2 months I know how rough it is chasing a toddler around and growing another human at the same time.

  • We have always had issues with naps and night time, he's never a good sleeper, period. That said, we have good days and bad days. For the most part he is napping either before lunch--around 12-- or after lunch--around 2-- he sleeps anywhere from 1 to 1 1/2 hours. I still nurse to sleep so sometimes that is the magic bullet but some days he really fights it and I totally understand the needing some time, it feels like all I do is chasing him all day long and since I'm in school that hour is golden for me to study, I can't imagine being pregnant and dealing with a crabby LO that doesn't want to nap, I feel for you mama!
  • My DS goes through cycles like this.   When he does, I definitely find a car ride helps.  Also, the fullest belly EVER at lunch- I really stuff him.

    Hang in there!

  • Maybe try putting him down earlier for his nap? That sounds like how my daughter gets when she is overtired.

Congrats on your new little one! How exciting. Despite the sleeping issues with my son (this is the 5th day in a row he has refused to nap) I can't wait for this next one to be here!
