Parenting after a Loss

WWYD: Halloween

My Dads office and my husbands are in the same parking lot oddly enough.  My dads office does this huge Halloween thing where kids can come trick or treat at the office and my nieces and nephews will be going.  I was going to bring Raylan to that with them and my mom and also stop by my husbands work so he could have a proud papa moment.  I was planning to either wear him or keep him in his car seat so he is off limits for holding.  I called to ask my pedi about it since he is only just over 1 month... Well they didn't call me back all day so I finally just called and the Dr. And nurses had all gone home. The receptionist told me their standard answer is to wait 34-35 days... He will be 33.  She also said keep in mind it's cold/flu season.  Sooooo....wwyd?

Re: WWYD: Halloween

  • I would take him...then again I had Alice out visiting my office at a week old. At my work most people will not take a baby out of a parent's arms so I usually just carry her in. I would use a carrier over a car seat. Less access to Raylan that way.

All of this. We've already visited both mine and MH work. No one tried to touch her.

  • I would take him. Whichever way would work.

  • I brought DD with me to work at 3 weeks and wore her the entire time. It was around Halloween and I work at a school. She was fine. I would go.

  • I'd go and do it however you are comfortable. DD came home from the hospital the day before Thanksgiving and FIs entire family of 20+ people were at our house, she was fine. Our Pedi didn't say anything about waiting to take her out. We took her to the mall at 2w old and only waited that long because I was too in pain to go any sooner (I fractured my tail bone)

  • We started taking DD out and about when she was about three weeks old, but we were careful to keep folks from holding her without washing their hands first, etc. I think it's whatever you are comfortable with, and not taking your child places where they'd be most likely to catch something that's airborne (like a school or hospital or something).

  • I would go. I didn't stay home with DD as a newborn, though. She came to the apple orchard with me when she was 2 or 3 weeks old. That said, I did wear her so there was no stranger touching. LOL, my sister the nurse probably would have pounced them anyway.
