I am the Mom who keeps parties small and simple. Well, somehow, my son's first birthday party has turned into 35-40 people coming to our house! It's mostly family, and then some friends of DH and I, but the friends have 2-3 kids each, and they are ALL coming. I expected some No's and to have about 25 people, and I got ZERO No's!
We have a smallish Cape Cod house, and guests will be in the dining room and living room, kitchen is not an eat-in kitchen, and thank goodness we have a finished rec room, where kids can go and play. We have a nice fenced-in yard, and the plan is to also entertain outside, but come on, it's going to be November in Wisconsin. It could be 55 and sunny, or it could be 30 and snowing.
I guess my question is - do I plan little games and activities for the older kids (ages 4-10), or just let their parents deal with them? My son is only 1, so it's not like I was actually planning games and stuff for him! Argh! I can feel the stress rising!
Re: Slight party stress...
This!
What about your garage? Any chance of doing a space heater to warm it up and having "overflow" out there? Otherwise, if it's really too big for the house, what about just renting the breakfast room or party room at one of the local hotels? They usually can easily hold 25-55 and it's not that expensive.
