Can we talk about movement AGAIN?

LO has active periods throughout the day now.  But the activity time is less predictable (used to be very predictable at night, now it's throughout the day and at night, but I can't really pin down a time) than it was previously.  In addition, the movement feels very different. I used to feel what seemed like limbs jerking around, and now it feels more like baby is rolling around, and occasionally kicking my bladder/cervix (ouch!).   Hard to explain, but it's just different.

What do your movements feel like at this stage?  Is your LO like clockwork, or apparently in a random sleep/wake pattern like mine?  Have you noticed changes?

I'm not too worried, just unsure about what's normal.  I have an appt. next Tuesday.

Re: Can we talk about movement AGAIN?

  • Mine gets squirmy around lunch time-I have a pre-lunch mtg every day, so this makes that more tolerable!  Then after dinner he likes to really flip and turn and then a little at bedtime.  He also likes to essentially pummel me in the middle of the night, 3-4 really quick "punches" usually.  That wakes me up every time.  I can definitely tell he's bigger, as the movements are also.

  • I agree... Within the past couple weeks the movements have gone from predictable times to unpredictable... Also, from jerky jabs and kicks to what I call squirms. I think it's just that he/she is working on growing and running out of room. My OB said that I should only worry/call if I go for several hours with no movement and am unable to *produce* movement with sugary drinks and lots of pokes... Any movement counts, even hiccups.

Thank you, this makes me feel better!

  • My LO is unpredictable. He's pretty quiet during the week, and much more active on the weekends. I've been feeling him squirm to, although I tell DH it feels like he's shivering or something. I feel an almost vibrating movement all along my stomach. It's so weird!

  • My LO is pretty busy throughout the day & has a period of 2hrs each night where he/she likes to pummel my ribs or bladder. The kicks and jabs are pretty strong & I notice LO changing position more frequently. Funny thing is that LO seems to have a favourite position, where he/she is head down and kicking my left side/ribs.

  • He used to move first thing in the morning and then at night. All last week I barely felt him at all. Stressed me out!! But this week he is all over the place at any time of the day. I feel him every couple of hours. It is a lot different than previous weeks as well. I felt him stretch close to my ribs for the first time today and the kicks haven't been as low today either. Maybe he turned?

Yup!  This is what my OB told me too when I mentioned that it seemed like I wasn't feeling him quite as much.  It was mostly that I was looking for movement at the previously predictable times when he isn't predictable anymore.

  • Eloise doesn't have a schedule anymore either, she used to be really active when I was going to sleep and now I feel her randomly. In the past 3-4 weeks I've notice all her movement changed from kicking [jabby feeling] to squirmy! They sort of run out of room sometimes which is why the feeling changes.

  • i really feel like everyday is a different story honestly. sometimes its like i can give you a time frame... other times LO is on his own time frame. i really think every baby is just on there own time lol!! i think though as long as you feel baby moving thats always a good sign!

This is me exactly. It can be a little unnerving because the squirming isn't as noticeable to me so when I am busy I will sometimes realize I haven't felt LO all day. Around 28 weeks is when movement patters went wacky for me.

  • My LO is still on schedule of sorts right at bedtime and if I relax on the couch after dinner.  As far as during the day though, she's much less predictable.  Some days she's a crazy child, others, not so much.  I, too, am feeling way more squirming and "sharp" edges that must be her elbows or knees.  It sometimes feels like she's scraping me with them and is actually almost painful!  I feel the occasional punches on my bladder/cervix but it's mostly squirms, rolls, pressing, etc...  Crazy feeling but amazes me every time I feel her.  I would love to know/see what she's actually doing in there sometimes!

  • My LO Kira was having what I began calling her nightly squirmfest around the same time each night, but in the past week or so it has not been as predictable. Sometimes I think she must be nocturnal because it seems as if she is moving all night and other times she seems very active during the morning hours. I have felt those same uncomfortable kicks to the crotch and they are nothing nice! It's all normal and you should only worry if hours have gone by with no movement.

  • I feel him pretty much all the time. I notice what you say is squirming too, it's like a bigger body part moving across my belly.

  • I was just thinking this same thing yesterday.  Her movements have gone from very predictable to she sleeps most of the time.  I had a hard time getting her to wake up yesterday morning and got nervous when she wouldnt move because she usually moves first thing in the morning.  She is squirming and tumbling around, but the kicks and jabs have slowed.  I think she is running out of room to move and it doesnt help that i have a short torsoe, she has nowhere to go, lol!

  • He's not super predictable but I did start feeling the rolling movements around 29 weeks. I think it just means they're big enough for us to feel these things! Plus, with depositing white fat they have more energy so their movement patterns may change! I had a bit of a panic attack/overreaction and went to L&D the other day because I felt like I wasn't feeling him move enough. The nurse told me there that as long as you're having 8-10 movements in 2 hours baby is fine. The actual Dr said they don't start paying attention to kick counts until week 34. But as PP said, he's WAY more active after I just ate/when I'm laying down.
