Do you think the name Jocelyn is about to become really popular? It is one of our top picks. I'm not even pregnant yet, but if we have a girl at some point in the next few years it would be a top contender.
I know that no one has a crystal ball but the ladies on this board seem to be fairly well versed in naming trends so I thought I would ask you for your thoughts. I'm afraid it is going to become the new Caitlin. (Jocelyne, Jossalyn, Joscelyn, Josselin etc- ick).
It is so hard to come up with girl names that DH and I will agree on - so I am putting the cart WAY before the horse.
Re: Jocelyn
#1: Jocelyn is a popular name (#70 nationally), but its popularity is pretty steady. It has ranked in the 50-100 range every year since 2002, with no clear momentum either way. It has been top-200 since 1992, so it is trending up, but slowly. It seems to have stalled and is probably not headed for the top 10. Jocelyn's popularity is driven in part by its attractiveness to Spanish-speaking parents. It is a top-50 name in California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, etc.
#2. Jocelyn and Caitlin are actually similar in several ways. If you add up the 50+ spellings of Jocelyn used by five or more families in 2011, it is the #41 name in the country. That's about twice as many different spellings as Caitlin/Kaitlyn, etc.

WOW! I had no idea there were 50+ different spellings. Thank you.
You mean you never considered spelling it Jhoselyn (7 usages) or Jhoselin (5 usages)? No creativity.
ETA: Really, the number of spellings is inflated by the interchangeable J/Y in Spanish and Jocelyn's popularity among Spanish speakers.
