LO sleeping flat or propped up?

Is your LO sleeping flat on their back in a crib/cradle? Or, do they prefer sleeping in a bouncy seat or swing that has them angled up? Sometimes my dd likes lying flat but mostly she just starts screaming unless she's tilted up. I'm wondering if it's because after she eats lying flat is uncomfortable for her. I also worry about her spitting up if she's flat on her back. It's making the nighttime feedings quite difficult. Thoughts?

Re: LO sleeping flat or propped up?

  • DD normally sleeps in her swing during the day (or on a person), and her RNP at night. Her first few weeks she did well in the PNP flat on her back but she has started spitting up a good amount and I don't want to tempt fate. Although she slept in her stroller bassinet for a few hours last week, so who knows.

I am too paranoid to attempt the crib because I like having her with me or another adult :)

  • My LO much prefers to sleep propped up in his RnP.

  • Thanks ladies. Are you concerned with having them propped up too much due to their back being curved for too long of a time frame? Ugh, the worries never end. :

  • I don't have the energy to worry, lol. If she is sleeping, I am cool with it. We do a lot of holding her / wearing her though so I don't think she'll have a flat head.

  • My LO sleeps flat in her crib during the day and at an incline in the Nap Nanny on our bed at night.  When she is flat she rolls over on her side, so I prefer the incline.

  • She mainly sleeps in her rock n play, sometimes in her pac n play or on my chest. Mainly the rock n play. I like it too cause I can see her face from wherever I am and I don't have to worry if she ever spit up she won't be flat.
  • Our LO has reflux so the Rock and Play is great.  She is angled upwards.  And during the day for naps she is in an infant to toddler rocker that also is angled upwards for her.

  • Depends on his level of congestion - he gets super crackly at night. I put him in the bouncy seat til he falls asleep then I transition him back to his back again, it's more like laying on an incline in this seat so I don't get worried. He'll sleep in the swing one nap a day and on one of us the rest or the PNP.
