Ear infection update

DS had a pedi well-check appointment today. He has been on antibiotics for a week. The ear is still infected. He had to get a shot of antibiotics today (2, really), and he has to go back tomorrow and Thursday for 2 more doses. If it doesn't clear up, then we will be talking about tubes.

This poor kid feels like crap, got one shot in each leg today, and is now going to physical therapy for an hour. It's hard to be a toddler sometimes. :(

  • Poor Ian - I hope the infection clears up. And if it doesn't, just know that I LOVE DD1's TUBES SO MUCH I WISH I COULD MARRY THEM. lol but it's almost true.

DD1 was so miserable, getting ear infections one after the other - Towards the end, we wouldn't even make it one week between two rounds of antibiotics. Getting the tubes in was one of the best decisions we ever made.

    Good luck!

  • Hope he begins to feel better. Poor fella!

We did tubes after DD's infection didn't clear after 2 consecutive rounds of antibiotics. I wasn't comfortable with the amount of medicine we were putting her little body. Tubes have been the best thing for her!

Did your DD have the injection of antibiotics?

  • She did. She had 10 day oral, still had an infection. She then got a rocephin injection. Went back the next week and it had helped but there still was infection present. It cleared after another round of oral antibiotics and she was sent to the ENT the same week. The next week we were having tubes placed! We were most concerned because she was on the strongest oral antibiotics possible and the infections still wouldn't clear up.

Her first ear infection began in April and easily cleared. Her next two were June and July. The one in July was the one that would not clear. She was receiving medication basically from the end of July until the beginning of September.
