SO ANNOYED (babysitting issues)

So my good friend who has been watching DS for the past 3 months (gasp) has something else to do tomorrow. She can't bring him with. I understand that she has a life too, I just kinda wish she told me a few days ago.

We have called every parent, grandparent, godparent, cousin and other friend we know. It's either no answer or no-can-do. DH FINALLY go some overtime and I have report card pickup tomorrow so neither one of us can take the day off (although I am contemplating stowing DS away in my totebag and disguising him as a new kindergartener.

DH found ONE person that has nothing to do tomorrow; his transient, transgendered friend and her equally transient girlfriend (I don't get it). The transgendered part does not bother me; it's the transient pothead part. She stayed at our place a couple weeks and she never got off the couch, barely spoke and REEEEEEKED. She offered to watch DS before for free a couple months ago if we'd TOTALLY let her crash on our couch until she got on her feet (DH has been waiting for THAT for about a decade). I gave it a healthy "hell to the no" and my husband and I get into a mild battle every time I have to pay my more stable friend $100 for watching DS but right now I'm desperate.

Oh yeah, they have no way of getting to our house so I have to go pick them up at 10:00 at night. Yes. Them. They can't stand to be apart.

Talk me off this ledge. Please.

  • I'd bring your LO to school w you.  I would choose that over the other alternative.

  • did you look into drop in daycares in your area? they pay hourly usually I think so maybe you could get over to work just for a couple hrs?
  • Ditto looking into drop-in places and then taking LO to work.  I teach half-day Kinder so that situation would be doable for me if this situation ever arose.  I would also be talking to DH about what he considers an appropriate sitter!

  • I'm having a really hard time understanding why you think this person (people?) is any option.

  • I would pay the $100.00 over letting someone who you know does drugs watch my child.  That wouldn't even be an option.

I didn't DH did for no other reason than he (or she) is his friend and offered to do it.

I looked into drop ins. The closest one was 15 miles from my house and I'm on the bus.

I called the convent and the only sister that would've been available to watch him go deported a week ago.

So.... I took a deep breath, locked up the valuables and went to go pick up the friend.

I came home to find DS still in his jammies watching my boxed set of American Dad (storm knocked out the cable and apparently NO ONE could find the Mickey Mouse DVDs Confused ) But he was fed, changed and safe.

I can't wait for him to go back to his regular sitter tomorrow.
