Lentils

Anyone made lentils before?  I tried making lentils tonight, followed the instructions (1 part beans, 2 parts water, bring to a boil and simmer covered until tender) and ended up with a mess that was made up of half over-cooked beans and half undercooked beans.  What did I do wrong?

    Did you soak the beans?? I always soak the lentils..like the night before.

    How long did you cook. When I made them I didn't presoak but I did cook them for about 30 mins. Then I pureed them and they were pretty soft.

    Not that long...I think about 30 minutes.  The bag said 15 and they were not done at 15, so I added an extra 7 minutes.  They still weren't done, so I just kept checking them every two mintues or so for the next 5 minutes before I gave up and tossed them.

    Are you using red or green?  For some reason I have the best luck with getting the red ones really soft.  I cook them with onions, carrots, and sweet potatoes.

    Try the overnight soak.
