I posted this on my BMB, but would love to hear fellow c-section mom's experiences.
What did you wear to deliver?
My last pregnancy I thought that the "designer" gowns were the biggest waste of money and a total joke.. but this time around I'm seriously considering it. I'm having a repeat c-section and so I *know* that for at least 24 hours following delivery I will be stuck in the same gown.. it's most definitely not the end of the world but for the sake of making myself feel as comfortable and pretty as possibly (for guests, pictures, etc) I am thinking about trying to find a "prettier" option.. I've seen some for less than 20 bucks..
My main question is.. is this something that's ever even allowed in the Operating Room? Or would I have to change into it after, which I'm not sure would be physically possible. I know I can just ask my OB, but I figure if other people have has the experience where it was absolutely not allowed, I wouldn't bother asking about something so trivial.
decisions, silly decisions.
SIDENOTE, what got me thinking of this.. Watching Jim Gaffigan..

We Made A Wish....
And You Came True!
All of this.
I've had 2 c/s and didn't want to worry about getting stuff all over my own clothes and then having DH wash them when we got home. They brought me a gown whenever I asked for one and usually brought an extra just in case. I stayed 4 nights with both deliveries and never wanted to put on my own clothes.
I wore the hospital gown, but they did let me wear my own cute slippers in the OR - so at least I had that ! I HATE the pictures of me from LO's birth day - I was so freaking puffy and bloated from the IV meds, my makeup wore off, and I was so drugged from surgery, honestly they are the worst pics of me ever taken (the hospital gown was the least of my issues, LOL). Additionally, the only guests we had on day 1 were my parents, so the whole looking good for guests didn't matter to me. Lastly, TMI, but I bled quite a bit on the first day and wouldn't have wanted to get anything on my cute outfits.
That being said, 2 days later we took our hospital professional pics and I was able to get up, take a shower, and put on a half way decent outfit. The bloat had gone down quite a bit, and I actually LOVE these pictures of me and LO. If I do a RCS, I wouldn't worry how I look on Day 1 - it's going to be a crappy day no matter what. Focus on bringing cute pajamas to wear after that.
That's actually what I love about our first pics with the girls. Nothing staged or phony. It's exactly what happened and it wasn't pretty but I love them.
I wore jeans and a tshirt to the hospital for a regular appt and ended up with an emergency c/s, so I didn't have anything with me. DH ended up bringing some sweat pants and a tshirt, but I wore the hospital gown most of the time. I was so out of sorts I didn't really care. Next time I will probably bring a nice night gown to wear that is conducive to nursing.
You'll probably have to wear the hospital gown in the OR.

Some people don't care if they look like death warmed over in pictures or at the hospital, but if you want to look pretty, go for it! I'm having a scheduled c-section and my doctor told me I could wear a designer gown. I am having the c-section on a Friday morning and plan to wear the gown as long as possible, or the rest of that Friday if I can manage it. I don't expect it will get too dirty.. it will be pushed up while they perform the c-section.. but even if it does, oh well. I may shower later that day or wait until the next morning, then I will change into comfy pajama-type clothes. Other reasons to want a nicer gown:
1. I don't want my ass exposed, sorry.
2. Hospitals are cold. I'm due in November, so it will be cold outside, cold inside the hospital. The gown I bought it quite large, so the sleeves hang down to about my elbows and I'm covered all the way to my mid-calves too.
Anyway, just do what you want to do as long as it's allowed. One piece of clothing isn't going to make too much of a difference. You throw it in the washer, you let the washer run, and if you're feeling too lazy to throw it in the dryer, you can hang it on a hanger and let it air dry. I don't see the problem.

Once I was up and showered I wore maternity yoga pants, pretty nursing tank and a comfy cotton robe. As for first photos after a failed induction, 28 hours of labor and an unplanned C section- I looked pretty battle weary but deservedly so.
