So last night was a rough night. SS (7, nearly 8) was having trouble sleeping and came up with a variety of reasons to call DH or myself to his room in the wee hours (bad dreams, bed not comfortable, etc, etc). I finally put my foot down around 3:30 or 4 and told him that I was sorry he was having trouble sleeping, but that everyone in the house needs sleep and unless he was having an emergency, we needed him to respect that and to try really hard to just get some sleep. He was quiet from there on out.
When I went in this morning to get him up (letting DH sleep a little longer; he's having a stressful time at work lately), SS was already up and making his bed. After his breakfast, he was trying to make me laugh when we were brushing our teeth together, but I finally had to tell him that I was in a pretty bad mood since I was so tired, and I just didn't think he was probably going to pull of being funny this morning and could he please just brush his teeth.
The little sweetheart killed my grumpy mood with his next move though. We had just woken up DH, and I was about to take the little guy on to school, so I sat down to put on my shoes. I'm eight months pregnant, so this has become quite a chore. SS came over and said, "Here, let me help," and knelt down, put on my right shoe, and tied it for me. I nearly cried. I left it alone even though it was so loose I was sure it was going to fall off my foot. I love that kid.
Re: Sweet moment with SS
THANKS. We do too . . . we'll be losing enough sleep soon enough! ;-)
