Speaking terms???

Ok so my LO is now 13 months old, but doesn't really say a whole lot.  We have the all popular "Uh oh" that was learned months ago and stuck.  He says "all done" or his variation of it.  He sometimes says "da-da" but doesn't always say it to DH.

He used to say "ma-ma" around 7 months old, but won't anymore for some reason. I point to myself and say "ma-ma" and point to him and say "Jaxon", then back and forth.  He looks at me and says "a-da" then laughs, like he knows he's not saying it right!  The little monkey he is!!

He follows directions GREAT, so I'm not sure when they start to develop more words, I know they all learn different, but I just thought "ma-ma" and "da-da" happened by now?

What all are your LO's saying these days??

Re: Speaking terms???

  • M is saying alot, but I think a lot of kids her age are at the norm with not talking too much.

M says: dada, mama, kiss for uncle Chris, pappap, car for the dog Charlie because she can't say char, bath, yes, please, bed.

  • O says a few words. She will say dada, but you can tell she means it for H when she says it a certain way, I can't explain in text lol.

She will say momma, but only if she's crying or hurt herself.

She calls the dog "bah" and he is starting to come when called haha.

She will say yea and dat.

She will also shake her head yes or no when asked a question.

  • Carter says light, that, mama, dada, dog (even for the cat, lol), no, bye, hot, and look.  His favorite ones are light and no!

  • DD says mama, dada, duck, dog, no, and yes. She also moos and roars, but those aren't really words.

She has become an efficient talker these days, so she now replaces most words with this and that. She will still call me mama at times, but usually I'm this.

She understands quite a bit. She will answer questions (yes/no) and follow commands.

  • The average is 4 or 5 words by 15 months, so at 13 months I wouldn't worry if your LO is only saying one or two or even none. DD2 only has a handful - daddy, oopsie, choo choo, woof woof, all done, up please. I have yet to get mama out of her beyond just babbling the ma sound.

A doesn't say anything, just babbles.

im pretty sure this is us too. Em claps and says her version of "yeah" while clapping, but other than that, I don't think she clearly says anything. She says dada but not directed at him consistently so I still consider that babbling.

  • Hmmm DS doesn't say a WHOLE lot

he says mama, dada, dog (dah), cat, that (dat) and No (sounds like go, but he's got the whole finger point down to go along with it)

  • DD says dada, bye-bye, ball, light, and bow wow (what she calls her stuffed dog).

  • Max does not say much but he is a huge babbler. He does say dada, mom, bye bye, hi, hey, and dog.
  • It is still common at this age for kids to not have many words.  DS was slow to talk and only had a few words by 18 months.  At 3 he talks non stop and has a huge vocabulary.

DD, on the other hand, doesn't babble a lot but is clear and intentional when she does speak.  So far she uses mama, dada, Kai, hi, doggy, kitty, please, thank you, all done, more, up, down, help, milk, and cheese pretty consistently.
