Yellow stains on clothes in storage

I bought a bin today to store the overflow of all the clothes G has grown out of.

I started to sort through them and  I noticed that quite a few had yellow stains on them. I know that most of them weren't like this when I originally put them up. What causes this and is it fixable? If I can get these stains out will they just come back when I put them back in storage? (I have no idea what I'm storing all these clothes for, I just can't bring myself to get rid of them)

Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Yellow stains on clothes in storage

  • We have had this problem, I've been told it's stains from spit up/milk/formula. Here's a link to a blog with a method to try getting them out:

I haven't tried it since Oxy Clean tends to turn things orange due to our awful water. I've also heard Ivory soap works, so I think I'm going to try that before I store all of our itty bitty clothes again.

  • Yes, very common. From drool, milk, spit up. I have used oxy clean or bleach on whites. But yes, they will probably come back. And some won't be saved :(

  • I was thinking oxy clean was probably the easiest route instead of treating each individual piece. Thanks for the input.

I hope I can save my favorite pieces :(

  • We had this problem!  I just soaked the clothes in OxyClean and then ran through a regular wash cycle.  Everything came clean (though some items needed more of a soak than others).
