Ever since starting prilosec, DS has had these "episodes" at night where he wakes up SCREAMING. I go in his room and pick him up. His back is arched super far back and he's spitting up clear liquid and it's kind've bubbly. Not formula or milk. In between spitting he screams. I hold him tight, wipe his face and after a minute or so he falls back asleep.
During the day he's spitting up less for the most part, but the nighttime episodes, 4 in about 8 days are frightening. They only happen at night so I wonder if it has something to do with sleeping on his tummy, though this is supposed to be better for reflux babies.
I don't know if I should call the pedi about it or wether this is just reflux because most of the time he's had "silent reflux." Is this similar to anything your babies' do or does it sound like I should call the pedi NOW and not wait until his 2 mo appt on Monday?
Re: XP BMB: Reflux moms
He takes Prilosec 1.1 ml 2x/day. While he transitions he's also on Zantax 2x day in between the Prilosec. I've been weaning down the evening Zantac dose.
He was 9lbs 14 oz when prescribed the Prilosec a week ago and he was put on a higher calorie regimen since then due to slow weight gain so he's now 10lbs 9 oz. His first night "episode" was just a couple of days after starting the Prilosec.
I might have to try the wedge, though I find it a strange coincidence that this would start right after beginning Prilosec. With continuing the Zantac, it shouldn't be a lack of medication, thought Zantac is quite weight sensitive.
Our Pediatrician gave us the following instructions:
Give Liquid Zantac 2x daily
Get a better bottle - Dr. Browns works for us
Switch formula - Gerber Soothe
Keep baby elevated after feeding for at least 30 minutes
