Rotating in crib? Help!

So my little guy will be 5 months old tomorrow. He has been waking up the past few days in his crib rotated sideways and kicking his feet against the crib slates. He cries and cries until I come rotate him back around vertically. He usually only does this once a night so it's not terrible.....but I would still love to not have to get up at 2:45 am just to go move him back haha. Any suggestions? Should I put a bumper just on the back portion of the crib, do you think that would help? Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Rotating in crib? Help!

  • My DS scooches all over the place in his crib, and usually winds himself all wadded up in the corner. To which he cries and I have to go rescue him. Nothing I can do to stop him from moving around. We have breathable bumpers in our crib so at least he can't get his arms and legs out. I mean, we move when we sleep so why shouldn't they? Just something I think we are going to have to deal with. :)

  • What about using a sleep sack?  My LO moves SSSOOO much, but the sack will keep her feet and legs from getting stuck.  They might wedge a little, but she moves again and gets them out without waking.

  • DS rotates in his crib all the time, too. We have breathable bumpers, but that doesn't stop him. I also use a SwaddleMe (with arms out) or a sleep sack, and I have taken the wedge out of his crib. None of this fixed the rotation. It happens mostly on nights when he is super gassy and wiggling to get the gas out.

  • While it may seem inconvienent it is pretty important to their development to be able to move around in their sleep.  Their little minds and bodies haven't stopped working just because they are asleep. For instance my lo rolled over 100% for the first time in his sleep. Awake he's more intent on trying to crawl, many months away yet. While sleeping he's been working at rolling over, first to his side, then all the way finally. Something I haven't seen while he's playing, because he'd rather scoot/crawl then.  I wouldn't worry, unfortunate that he wakes you but fairly common.
  • DS ends up 180 degrees from where he started. We have regular bumpers (Carter's super soft). Love them.
