Hank didn't chew his food very well yesterday afternoon, and now we are waiting on our surgical team. His food gets stuck at the narrowing of his esophagus where they connected him. He was born with a birth defect that left his esophagus disconnected from his stomach and his stomach attached to his trachea. He's all fixed up, but has to be REALLY careful about how he eats.
We actually have TWO Aug '11 moms whose kids were born with EA/TEF.
This is the second time we've been through this. There was the great blueberry episode of 2011, and now we're experiencing the great carrot catastrophe of 2012. His incidents are 11 months apart, so I am happy that we've gotten this far. It still blows.
He'll have to be fully sedated, they'll do a thoracoscopy and extract whatever is stuck in there. They might use a balloon to dilate him where his esophagus is narrow. We'll see.
Left Otis this morning at 5:30 with MIL and FIL. They were having a good time eating Cheerios and drinking coconut milk. I just received a picture of Otis and PopPop reading the morning paper together.
Anyways, I'm pretty sad that my boy is in this situation, and I'm having all sorts of bad thoughts. Wish us luck!!
Thanks for reading. :: Hands out Halloween candy and reminds everyone to chew really well ::
Re: In the hospital... :(
