Pregnant after 35

Is it too early to use the pregnancy card?

We have a little bit of a storm heading our way Mon into Tuesday, I work in NYC but commute in via subway from Brooklyn. My company didn't make any announcements on Friday with regards to if the office will be open if we get a direct hit or not. Personally, the last thing I want to do is be stuck trying to find a way home Monday evening in tropical storm conditions if the my subway line is messed up (we get a few inches of rain and it causes issues) Fortunately we rarely loose power since its all underground.  I'm thinking I need to pull the pregnancy card to work from home on those two days.

My sister is due next week and lives right on the beach, needless to say she's not so thrilled right now..

Re: Is it too early to use the pregnancy card?

  • I hear you..wondering what to do myself.  I drive 25 miles from South Jersey to Phila and do NOT want to be on the road Mon or Tues if its going to be as bad as they say.  I'm going to try to WFH if possible and you should too.  Better to be safe than sorry.  Your poor sister..what awful timing, I would be freaking out.  This should be too late for hurricanes!!!

  • It's NEVER to early to pull the pregnancy card!  I would just say that you aren't comfortable with the risks of going in b/c of the threat of severe weather.  Surely they will understand?

    Good Luck!!

  • Well latest update is they'll make a decision by tomorrow evening about suspending subway service for Monday so that would make it a no brainer. My boss knows my status and I'm pretty sure he'll be working from home Monday as well if it stays on the current track. What can you do, better safe than sorry right!!!

  • Good. And for what its worth, I keep my explanations when using the pregnant card short, my boss seems to want to know as little as needed.

  • I'm planning to do the same. Annoying part is we have a guy coming from Chicago for an interview tomorrow. I asked Fri if he would reschedule, but insisted on keeping his plans. I may try calling again today bc I'm not going in!

  • I hope he doesn't think he's flying in tomorrow!!! I would say there's almost zero chance of that happening.

They just announced shutdown public transit, so looks like I'm working from home until Wednesday..

  • We've battened down with the company of M&DIL visiting (fled) from their beach condo. Preparing for the expectant power outage tonight and tomorrow. (And thankful that the hospital is about 10 minutes down the road in case LO decides he wants to be a hurricane baby.)

  • No its not too early whenever there is a big bad storm approaching and in this area who ever thought a hurricane would come at this time of year.  I feel bad for your sister I hope she made out alright.   I just saw this post today and its been awhile.  I hope all is good.  We lost power and I live in Pennsylvania we were out for 4 days I was freaking out but Thank God it was only power we lost.  I hope everyone out there is okay.
