I took one pregnancy test after 4 days of being late. It appears I am pregnant as both blue lines appeared. I just got married and didn't think that I could get pregnant this soon, as I am close to 40.I am very nervous since I haven't done the whole prenatal vitamin thing and actually had two glasses of wine last week. What should I do next?
Re: am I really pregnant?
I agree-- heck, my French friends drink a half a glass or a glass of wine every day or two during their pregnancies and their kids are just fine. Although, I am more cautious and don't drink...
Get on those prenatal vitamins now and I say get the blood test from your doctor sooner rather than later. I needed to see those numbers double/triple right away...

This is very good advice. Don't worry about the wine. Do start taking prenatal vitamins and especially your folic acid right away. I did do a blood test to confirm my pregnancy and check the HCG level, but I was already 7 weeks along by the time I discovered it (long story) so when my HCG came back at 34,000, there was no doubt about it!! Congratulations to you! There are tons of us older moms here enjoying very uneventful pregnancies, and hopefully you will be one of them too!
Over-40 parents...what we lack in vigor, we make up for with cunning.
Take a deep breath and relax.
Make an appointment with your doctor for a test.
Be aware that a couple of glasses of wine are not going to be the least little problem. Seriously. You have not done your child any damage. Likewise with the lack of prenatal vitamins. Giving your baby the best is important, but consider how many healthy babies are born to women who don't even have access to enough food, let alone special prenatal vitamins, right?
I was 39 when I conceived, and 40 when I gave birth, and I was unaware that I was pregnant (for a variety of reasons, including 3 negative pregnancy tests) for almost 6 months. No prenatal care AT ALL until week 26. My daughter was born and continues to be healthy and perfect and wonderful.
