swing/bouncer/mamaroo

Hi Ladies, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the above comparison? I received both a swing and bouncer (not registered for) at my shower. One of girlfriends then suggested I swap the two for the mamaroo since its a combo of both. I wasn't going to purchase a bouncer  since I had the swing but people were suggesting one. They said while I showered etc the baby could sit in the bouncer.

Any suggestions on keeping the swing and bouncer or swapping both for the mamaroo? I'm a FTM who doesn't want an apartment over run with needless baby stuff but dont want to miss essential baby items either. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks ladies.

  • I had never even heard of the mamaroo before now.  I didn't think I needed a bouncer, but I got one from a friend and it was a lifesaver with DS.  I enjoyed that it was so easy to take from room to room.  We could also take it with us when we went to visit friends.  If the mamaroo is has the same ease of transport, I say get it, but if not, you may want to consider keeping the bouncer.

  • I registered for and received both because I want the swing for the living room and the bouncer I can take into any room. Some babies prefer one over the other or don't like either so I wanted the option to try both.

  • I personally would keep the swing and bouncer for the above reason. The bouncer is small enough to move what wherever you are. I brought it into the bathroom to shower all the time. The swing is more of a stationary thing but most babies love them! The mamaroo to me seems very big and bulky, but I've never had one either so I can't really give an opinion I guess.

  • The mamaroo is a godsend!  It is an awesome machine!  We bought one and our little newborn cousin loves it and hates the swing and the bouncer!  The mamaroo essentially replaces the swing and bouncers because it does their job and more.  Save your money and get the mamaroo...it also is a space saver!

  • Although we didn't register for it, we received a mamaroo as a gift.  It is a swing on steroids as far as what it does, however it does NOT bounce like a regular bouncer does- one of the programmed movements is a kangaroo up and down, side to side motion so its not an action/reaction from LO's movements like a traditional bouncer.  Mamaroos are priced about the same as the plug in swings I was researching (sales aside as I wouldn't  know when people would buy off our registry).  After easily putting it together, it isn't very bulky, and is light enough to be transported from room to room IMO.  We registered for and received a plush RnP and look forward to using that around the house as well as when we visit grandparents.  I figured if we needed a bouncer we could get one later as they are pretty reasonably priced.

Also keep in mind that while some babies love swings, others just don't.

If you haven't already, I would find a retailer near you that has a mamaroo on display that you can check out and see for yourself how it differs from a traditional back and forth swing.  Good luck!

  • With DD, we had a swing downstairs and the bouncer upstairs. I used it a lot when I showered, etc. the mamaroo looks nice, but I liked having the 2 options. We will be using the same swing and bouncer seat this time around too.
  • I had a swing and bouncer with DS.  He loved the swing, but absolutely hated the bouncer.  I would suggest waiting to see what your LO likes.

  • We actually ended up with all 3 with DS. He hated the swing, loved the bouncer and tolerated the mamaroo. Each baby is so different so I would probably keep what you have now and see what you LO likes.
  • Thanks ladies! This was a big help.
  • DS hated the mamaroo but loved the bouncer, never did purchase a swing so I'm not sure but I will for this baby coming.
