east coasters

What are your plans for when the power goes out if ?
I was cleaning today and then realized I can very well clean with no power!
We went out it and bought pumpkins to carve
I brought home a few toys lo hasn't used before from my parents house
And I have a 2 crafts I was saving one for Halloween and one for after then I got the supplies for. I also have the stuff for puff paint and stuff to paint some pumpkins .. we have like 6 small ones. I also bought his bike inside lol.

I'm not really worried about the no TV or lights or cooking but we have planned activity everyday so he is used to going to playgroups and such and I just don't want him to get to bored staying home for a couple of days straight.
We will also miss 3 Halloween party's which makes me sad.
I almost bought dh and I a puzzle.. but I figured wirh lo that would be a mess

So what's your plan of action??

Re: east coasters

  • Midwesterner butting in.  We had a horrible wet, blizzard on Good Friday a few years ago and lost power.  We did crafts, played with battery powered toys and read a lot of books.  The girls honestly did not realize anything had happened except for no TV.

  • Aww, a puzzle!  That would have been a good idea for us, but now I think stores will be closed Monday/Tuesday.

DD has a bunch of puzzles and craft projects to do.  All her toys will function just the same.  DH's work is closed, so he will be home at least until Wednesday.  I'm really looking forward to all this family time, and a chance to hang out with our neighbors on Halloween (once the winds die down).  So in that sense, the hurricane is almost a good thing.

What I'm NOT looking forward to is an extended power outage.  We don't have a ton of canned goods to go to if grocery stores stay closed.  It's also going to be SO dark at night, which will be frightening for DD and boring/cumbersome for us parents, especially during DD2's night wakings.  It also will get colder in the house with each passing day without power.

Looking forward to coming back here in 7-10 days and hearing how everyone's week turned out!

Oh and eating all the ice cream and Popsicles

You bought extra ice cream and popsicles, didn't you?

"Oh, shoot, kids... It looks like we have 5 containers of ice cream, and 4 boxes of popsicles in here! Darn........... grab a spoon!"

  • DH and I will play board games and cards when the LO's go to sleep, and when the kids are up we will do arts and crafts, play, go to play group or some indoor playgrounds in our area. Idk, some fun stuff. I plan to explore places to go when the power is out. I'll just load the kids up and drive to see what I can find lol. I'll probably go to the mall one day because they have a kids play area there and I can buy stuff. We most likely will go out more than stay in.

  • We don't have many different plans if the power goes out - clean, play with toys, continue tot school activities, DH and I going to bed earlier, and no cooking Smile.  Honestly, I don't see a power outage affecting us too much.

  • Crafts, couch forts, board games, card games (Go Fish, Uno, Old Maid, etc.), pumpkin carving, toys, dress up, we got lots - but still going to be tough because I make a point of getting the kids out every day when possible.  Already hearing of people with their power out and its only 6:30 in the morning here.

  • I'm not too worried. We have enough toys to keep the kids entertained--we have an indoor climber/slide to burn their energy and plenty of toys to keep them occupied. Bedtime will be earlier for us all but that will be the only difference.

My parents are stranded here with us. We have leftover pizza, snacks, non perishable food, flashlights, pots of water, etc ready to go. DH and my dad are both going to be working from home today which means DD, my mom, and I have to try to keep it down while we build forts and make cookies. I think the men are being workaholics but they claim their deadlines aren't going away. I hope we don't lose power!

Tell DH and Dad that there is nobody to send that work too! :) My husband would be doing the same exact thing though. What does your DH do?

Y'all all stay safe. Stock up on crayons and art supplies...we do some of our best artwork during storms. :)

Haha I tried telling them that but they don't think it's true. DH is a lawyer I recall yours used to be too. So no surprise there. Dad is a prof.

HA! I knew it sounded familiar. :) Mine is now in-house and CEO, no longer a litigator though. Not sure if that's better or worse. :) My FIL is a law prof and I swear they will have to wheel him out of there when he goes.

  • I'm not as concerned about how to stay busy as how to stay warm.  It only about 7 celcuis here during the day and 0 celcuis at night. :S

  • If it gets bad, we'll pile into the minivan and head to my parents an hour or so away. I'm hoping they have power :)

In the meantime, we're watching a sh!tload of TV now, without any guilt, as I anticipate the power going out sometime today.

We ordered pizza last night- for extra today :) We've got plenty of snacks/water, filled up the tub just in case, and the girls will play fine. I'm just not looking forward to no power at night.
