I see a lot of people getting play kitchens for Christmas. E doesn't "pretend" yet. She has some fake food and pan or two and she doesn't pretend to cook or eat the food or anything. My niece is 4 and LOVES her play kitchen. I always thought this this was the right age for that kind of gift. I don't think E even notices when I'm cooking let alone wants to cook herself. Can your LOs pretend already? Am I missing something?

Re: Play Kitchens - Can Your LOs Pretend?
We decided to get one bc I got a great deal on zuilily and he loves the one in the church nursery. Since he is only there once a week, I think he would enjoy his own. He loves to shut the fridge and cabinet doors and shove the food in. I'm sure in a few years, they get the concept a little more of pretend play so hopefully this set holds up for a few years!
I got ours for my DD at 1yr. I had never heard of that before the bump, but I'm glad I did it. She started using it right away, and "pretending" around 18mos. With as much $ as we invested in it. I didn't want to miss any time she would enjoy it... It does seem a little weird but they will be at that stage before you know it, and definitely before next oct.
This is my thinking on it. She'll play with it in other ways for a while, but it'll change into playing pretend before you know it (and before you would have a chance to realize it and get one to really capitalize on it). We're building one for her for Hannukah, but I know she won't really use it as a kitchen for several months.

All of this. We got my DD one for Christmas last year. She was 16 months old. She loved it from the start and started pretending shortly after that. DS plays with it currently with her but more just copying. He loves opening up the doors, taking the food in and out, and turning the knobs. I'm so glad we got it when we did because DD has made amazing use of it and DS plays with it everyday now too.
E got one for her birthday and she plays pretend with it. She pours coffee and puts the cup to her mouth and goes "Aaaah". She's played with it with her older cousins so I know a lot of that is imitating what she saw them do.
