Anyone else in the midAtlantic/north east worried?

About this storm? The map I just saw is saying that the mid Atlantic is going to see 714 inches of rain and stronger winds with longer duration than last years hurricane Irene. I am now officially freaked out. We lost a HUGE part of a tree last year that just missed our house. We are surrounded by gigantic old trees. Not to mention we lost power for 5 days last year. Except of we lose power this time it's going to be in the 40's, so super cold! I have 26 gallons of water but I feel like we need to do more to prepare. I need to go pick up some food thing and want to get the laundry/cleaning done.

Am I the only one freaking out?

Re: Anyone else in the midAtlantic/north east worried?

  • For some reason when I post on my phone most punctuation doesn't show. That should say 7 to 14 inche of rain. Not 714!!! That would be impossible and we should all run away.

  • I'm further south but YES....it is a good time to worry and probably gonna be a nightmare at the grocery stores already. Take care and hopefully those big trees are strong and sturdy. WOW I hope this is more hype than reality, but it's looking really bad. ESP for Philly area and northward and inland.
  • I'm freaking out! I'm 28 days from my due date and DH flies to new mexico Monday for work. Its just me and the pups....I'm scurred.

  • im not scared.. but very prepared. if we lose power for any amount of time we will be relocating. i did have dh bring in firewood,am stocked up on water and a decent amount of food, but have relatives west and north of the storm that will gladly take in me and the boys.

  • I am more freaked than normal because DH is traveling tomorrow and will likely not be able to get home on Monday so if we have no power I will be alone with two bored kids and want to rip my hair out. I have some water but we have city water so not a big concern. We have a ton of bread and other food. I am going to run out tonight to fill up on gas since we drive today, I still have more than 1/2 tank. Our grills should have gas but I have never used it, lol, so that does not help. I have batteries in my flashlights but wish I bought a battery operated lantern. Honestly I am not really prepared if we ever got evacuated. I really need to be better and get my shitz together one day.

Crap, now I think I am going to check my yard while DH and DS are out picking up a cell phone car charger for my mom and driving to her house to take her table inside.

Oh and I think I'm going to do my laundry too so that I have clean clothes

  • I am in northern Virginia and the talk is non stop. I attempted to go shopping yesterday but every store I went to was out of water and other "must have" items. Last time we lost power due to a storm in July I ended up losing all my groceries so I didn't want to overdue it this time.

  • DHs flight was cancelled, they cancelled everything until Wednesday and his boss just postponed the trip so DH will be home with me after all. Yay!

  • I live in nj so it is supposed to be v bad so we will just wait and see. My big old house usually holds strong so hopefully that will continue. We have lots of water and non perishables.

A side note I never understand why people buy lots of bread for a storm. Won't it go stale in the same time it would have if there wasn't a storm? Are you going to increase your intake of bread significantly? Why do you need so much bread? No snark intended, I just never got it!

sandwiches.  lots of sandwiches.  they require no cooking, and require little to no refrigeration.  ;)

When Ike hit Houston a few years ago all of the bread at Super Wal Mart was gone, with the exception of the "double fiber" bread.  It was hilarious.  There was a completely empty aisle with one narrow section that had not been touched.

I guess people also didn't want to stock up on TP.....;)

  • Now that the storm is closer, but not officially "hit" in my area, everything is closed. Except for my job. I guess I am surprised since all Federal offices, schools, bus systems, metro, and daycares are closed. At least the roads were clear of traffic when I came into work this morning.

    Stay safe!

That is hysterical. I also live in NJ and Walmart was out of bananas. As for bread, it stays good for a scary amount of time these day they are obviously putting different preservatives in it and like someone said above you can make easy sandwiches. If we lose power and all our fridge/freezer food then you still have bread.

The thing I do not understand is the need for cash, if we lose power I have a feeling no stores will be open as cash only since they need electricity to operate. We did get 100 just to have though , lol.

  • Stay safe everyone. Have not had to deal with these type of storms (only tornados in my area) so no store closings, ect. Hopefully all will be well.
