Having trouble weaning from last BF session - Anyone else?

So we're down to one BF session - in the morning when CK first wakes up.  (It's always been her favorite and most-needed session.)  When she wakes up, she is a cranky, hot mess and does the sign for "milk" and cries until I nurse her.

I'm honestly not quite ready to give it up yet - but any advice on how to cut it when she's obviously very attached to it?  This morning, just to test the waters, MH tried to get her up instead of me and distract her and offer a sippy of milk - but she was NOT happy until I nursed her.

TBH, the thought of cutting out this last session makes me sad - I'm not sure when I'll feel like it's the right time to pull the plug - But I guess I'm just looking for advice.

TIA!

  • Are you dying to be done? If not, I wouldn't rush it. Weaning is taking months over here. We still do 2-3 sessions a day.

This although I'm not really trying to wean to drop the morning and night sessions unless she wants to, just not EPing throughout the day since we can drop the amount of fortified formula she needs and I'm over pumping at work.

Meh... I'm honestly on the fence.  Not really dying to be done.  But I AM looking forward to getting my cycles on track so I can try to get KU and would also like to be the one to sleep in.  Smile  (MH offers to take over after she's nursed so I can go back to bed, but once I'm up, I'm up.)

But you're right, I don't need to rush it.

  • I just dropped down to one session a couple days ago. We kept the morning feed, but dropped the session before bed. Last night, I picked her up to give her a cup of milk, and she was happy until she saw the cup. Then she freaked and cried for 20 minutes. She didn't drink much of it, but she's also teething, so she's not content. She actually STTN last night, even with barely eating any dinner/ milk.

I expect when I drop the morning session it will be similar. I'm ok sticking with it for awhile. She adjusts to change well, so I know it will only be a couple rough days. At the beginning of the month she was still 100% BF, and now at the end she's down to 1 session.

  • We're working our way down as well.  The last couple of days we've only done 2 sessions, but I worry she's not getting enough milk if I don't keep at least one.  She will take sips of her WCM throughout the day, but it just doesn't seem to be enough.  I plan on at least keeping the morning session for a while, because I know she's at least getting several ounces of milk in a day.  Then again, I'm not wanting to get KU any time soon- or ever...

I'm no help, just in the same boat.  I wish you well weaning.  I just tell myself we've been fortunate to have children who want to nurse and have the ability to nurse.  I can tell you the one thing that has worked in the morning is to put her directly into her high chair to feed her breakfast with cup in front of her. Only if DH does it though, but he is rarely up to get her out of bed before me...
