Need some T&P Please-2nd Update

My 83yo grandmother fell down the stairs earlier and has broken her back at T12 and L1.  They've transported her to a trauma center over an hour away and my parents are with her and I'm anxious to hear what the treatment/prognosis is.  Reading the CT report, it doesn't sound too bad...but I'm not a Dr.

My grandmother has always been so independent and even still works 3-5 days a week.  She even still has naturally red hair, although it's very faded.  Anyway, it's just been a really shiity day and I'm praying that this is something that can heal fairly well considering her age.

Update:

My grandmother is going to have surgery to fix the broken vertebra in her back this afternoon. Of course, there's lots of risks with her age, but they feel that this is the best option and the Dr mentioned that she may be able to go home tomorrow. I have actually done this surgery, being an xray tech, but that part is the only knowledge I have of it.  I really wish she was at my hospital where I know people and can make sure she's well taken care of. :(
On top of all of it I'm sick for the second time in a month. I never get sick and I'm thinking all the stress is getting to me.

Update #2

Thanks for thinking of us!  She's doing really well and is already feeling better.  Depending on how she does with PT, she may get to come home today. I'm just so proud of her!!  She fell in the basement and had to crawl up the stairs to get to the phone to call us.  My grandfather fell down the stairs and passed away from a broken neck 13 years ago, so this hit really close to home for the whole family.

  • I'm sure your grandmother will be ok given her current active lifestyle. 83 and still working? What a Rockstar! Just make sure she is being a good patient after the fact. The recovery/PT part is soooo important!

And I'm sorry your sick; could be your body telling you to slow down. Big hugs to you! ::::smile::::
