Surprise for Son

I am due in February with my second child and I wanted to something special for my son. He will be 17 months when DD arrives. Whenever my Mom (who had ALL girls) had a baby, she always had the nurse bring the other siblings baby dolls, swaddled and in the bassinet - which is a great memory for us. I know he won't be old enough to really understand, but I want to do something as a special surprise. Any ideas? Is giving him a babydoll to girlie???

    I think the baby doll idea is really cute and not at all too girlie especially for a 1 1/2 year old. My son is 18 months now and loves his babydoll.

    Maybe switch up a baby doll for something more unisex like a build a bear. My big bro got a monchichi monkey any one remember those lol

    DD will be 22 months when this LO comes. We got her a doll and starting around xmas will start teaching her how to change the doll's diapers, feed her, etc, so that when I'm changing the new LO, she can change her doll and feel like part of the process. That's the hope, anyway. But we're definitely going to get her a separate present "from" her new little sister that she will get when she comes to see us in the hospital for the first time. Want to get that sibling relationship off to a good start! ;-)

    I don't think a doll for your DS would be inappropriate.

    Is your DH going to help care for your new baby?  Cuddle, change, feed rock her?  Of course he will and you DS is going to want to be just like him.  A doll is a Very appropriate toy for him!

    I ordered my son a boy cabbage patch doll online for his first birthday. Same color as him, and such so he could relate. He loves his baby. Now he is 2&1/2 years old, and still loves his doll. We do things to show him how to hold the baby and hug the baby, and kiss the baby.

    I am buying my son a baby doll and we are going to do "big brother" lessons before Baby Girl arrives. I'm going to have a gift from Baby Girl to DS in the hospital, probably a train or something he can play with quietly in the hospital.

    I was going to take my son to build a bear and let him make a animal for himself and one for his sister when she arrives. When the baby comes he can deliver the present to her at the hospital, then his sister will give him a present as well.  For us it will be those glow in the dark stars since his room is a outer space theme.  As for learning how to take care of the baby, I will cross that bridge when the real deal comes.
