I don't see the appeal, but many would say the same about my taste in names I feel like the minority on this board, but I don't care for what I think of as "old man" names (Oliver, Henry, etc.).

I like Oliver. I am not a big fan of most old man names either, but I don't consider Oliver an old man name- it reads more preppy British to me, somewhat like Rowan, Graham, Malcolm, etc.

I think the reason I lump it in with old man names is because I'm a music teacher and always think of the musical, Oliver, when I hear the name. I immediately start singing "O-lee-ver, O-lee-ver...." in my head when I read/hear the name. Something about the combination of the setting and it being based on a Charles Dickens novel just makes it seem like an old man name.

I strongly dislike the name Oliver, mostly bc its a dogs name to me and I cant stand the nn Ollie. But I do love Henry. Different strokes for different folks.

LOL! I have an Oliver who is nine, and this son will be Henry.

Well, I will say they make a nice sibset name! Just not my style, but DS is a Mason, so I'm guessing we have different tastes in names lol

I love Oliver. I alway said I wanted to name my little boy that...but my sister named her cat Oliver (so now all I can think about is the cat when i think of the name) & we ended up being pregnant with a girl....so yeah. I like it tho.
I love it. If my sister would have had a boy (2 girls, Lily Allis and Ivy Elizabeth) she was going to name him Harvey Oliver. It is geared more towards the tractor Oliver just like Allis is for Allis Chalmers...farmer thing lol. Harvey was our great grandfathers name. Lily was named after our great great great aunt Alilya. We like family names.
Personally, I LOVE Oliver. I think it will age well and I don't know any Oliver's in my area (Although I think it's a pretty popular name in other places)

I like the name a lot. It reminds me of Oliver Barrett, an old money name from the movie Love Story (one of my favorites!). I also like it with our last name, which is 2 syllable, the second syllable starting with a "V."
That said, I am a little turned off by it because it's been popular and I know a few. But if you love it, you should use it!
What appeals to you about it?
We love old man names. LOVE. And absolutely hate trendy modern names.
I like that it has a fair amount of popularity but has an old fashioned vibe to it. It also works well in a sibset with my LO's name.

I like Graham and Malcolm also.
This. Favorite boys name. We are having a girl but this was our boy name.

Ditto this!
I don't care for Oliver.
Nah, popularity doesn't bother me. I love many of the top 20 names.
