Work conference OOT & baby

I am going to a conference in a few weeks and we've never flown with LO. She will be 10 months old and we are planning on having her on our lap. When I try to book the flight on travelocity though there isn't a way to add an infant. Do I just show up with her? We are bringing her stroller and I still need to find out if I need to bring her car seat too or if the shuttle company has one (that's a lot to haul through the airport!!). Anyone know anything about how this works? Plus, I need a fridge for my pumped milk so DH can feed her while I am gone. How does that work? None of the rooms (at a Hyatt Grand!!) appear to have fridges?? I am calling tomorrow, but I was surprised.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

Re: Work conference OOT & baby

  • We flew many times with LO, especially around that age. I would definitely call the airline and let them know that you booked a ticket and she needs to be added as a lap infant. She will need a boarding pass, so it's better that they know in advance. I would bring her car seat if you can. We've never rented one because I'm not entirely sure I'd trust an unfamiliar seat. Do you have to bring the stroller? We have never travelled with her stroller because I find it a huge hassle--I always brought a carrier with us and would use that through the airport and while we were out and about. I'm not a huge stroller fan though so I'm biased anyway :)

Definitely call the hotel--they probably have mini-fridges somewhere. Will you be traveling with pumped milk, or will DD just eat what you pump? We brought frozen pumped milk in a cooler once and had no problem getting it through security. That was only for "emergencies" though--otherwise, I just went up to the room during the day for feedings and DD nursed. There were lots of breaks in the day (15 min between sessions and lunch).

    Hope this helps!

  • I just booked flights and the lap infant option is with the handicapped options. Or you can just call the airline? Or just tell them when you check in. It's my first time flying with a LO so I can't answer your other questions about the flight.

The hotel is required to provide you with a fridge in your room for BM storage, so call the hotel to tell them.

  • Call the airline prior to your trip. I would think the Hyatt would have a mini fridge. If not, I would get a styrofoam cooler from a nearby store.

  • Yes, call the airline. Also, they will give you the tips on what to do with stroller. We just rolled ours right up to the gate and they had it ready for us at the gate when we landed.

Even though you didn't buy a seat, try to get in good (with isn't hard) with the flight attendants, if there are any empty seats they'll make sure you get it for your LO to have the extra space.

  • I think it differs by airline because we always fly Southwest and I have never called them ahead nor have I booked the flight with a lap child. I just show up, show her birth certificate and she gets a ticket that's stapled to mine. However I am usually checking bags so I have to go to the counter anyways so it doesn't take any extra time.

  • Call! AA and Delta require infant info. Bring birth cert. the hotel will give you a fridge. Just call and request.

Checking car seat is free. You can check stroller at the gate. I LOVE my ergo to fly with baby. I put her in it and am hands free when boarding. It is a life saver and it calms LO.
