Car seat time!

What car seats are you ladies going with?

Originally, I was going the Britax Marathon... But now reading up on other options. Any opinions on the Radian RXT or Clek Foonf? I drive a Lexus IS250, so I know fit may be an issue (any insight on this is appreciated too)

Opinions on other brands are welcomed too: Peg Perego...Britax...

Thank you!

Re: Car seat time!

  • We have the Chicco Keyfit30 and I have loved it. Can't wait to use it again with Baby #2 :) (Super easy to use and install btw)

  • We've had a Graco Snugride for the infant seat.  When that's done we've had a Britax- Roundabout and a Boulevard.  I've liked every seat just fine.  Britax has been long established as a good seat and I've heard good things about the radian.  I've never heard of the Clerk though.
  • We have the chicco keyfit 30 as well. Very easy to take from car to stroller. Mine was installed in the center as well. I would recommend getting it double checked by a police station or fire house to be sure it's in the correct spot for your make and model of car. Me and Dh are ftps and we actually just went and had them show us how it was to properly fit and we got a lot of great info about where the restraints should hit baby at different ages and stages in growth and things like this. It helped us a lot. Hth

Good point about going to the fire station! DH is a FF so he always checks my install jobs ;) (or does it himself!)

  • We have the Britax B-Safe for the infant seat. We may get the Britax Roundabout or a Graco for the convertible car seat, haven't decided yet.

  • I just got my Graco snugride and really like it. It wasn't one of the cheaper ones, it is really solid and nice. Compared to the car set I had for DS 6 years ago, this one seems like a NASA item it's such better quality. I was hoping to get the Chicco, but the weight limit was too low for me and I wasn't sure it would fit with DS's car seat in DH's car.

We plan to get the Britax Roundabout for the convertible later. We had it with DS and LOVED it. Too bad the LO's are 6 years apart or we'd still have it.

  • Thank you for asking m21megs! This weekend's goal is making the decision. Just had a car seat talk from a highway Parol Officer at our Birth Class... can go for infant seat or rear facing convertible seat and either way, he said the reccomendation was to have the child facing rear as long as possible ... specifically through age 2 although the law in our state does not go that old.

  • We have a Peg Perego carseat that locks into the Peg Perego Uno stroller. My husband researched all the different safety standards and really liked this one. I was ok with whatever he picked, he loves researching things and if this one met his standards it must be pretty darn good! haha

  • We went with the Chicco Keyfit 30. Heard too many good things about it to pass it up :)

  • My son started in the Chicco Keyfit*, and moved to the Combi Zeus 360 at about 4 months.  He recently moved to a Britax Marathon, which I looooove.  I just ordered a second one for our other car, and I imagine that after this baby outgrows the Keyfit and Combi that we already have, I'll be ordering two more Marathons and both boys will be in those for quite some time.

*Our Keyfit is NOT the Keyfit 30.  Ours only goes to 22 lb, which I felt was plenty for the infant seat and what I wanted to carry around.  And my son moved when he was like 18 lb anyway just b/c he hated that seat.  I'm sure given that I'll have 2u2 though, this baby will be in that seat until he absolutely outgrows it :P

  • We have the Britax B-Safe for her infant seat, and were lucky enough to have someone buy us the Britax Pavilion for once she grows out of her infant seat.  We liked the B-Safe because it fits with our stroller (also Britax) and seems comparable with the Keyfit with regards to safety.  We got the Pavilion because of the Britax reputation, and that we can rear face up to 40 lbs. (and all of the safety materials that we've read have said that longer is better).

  • We just received both the Britax Chaperone infant seat coordinates with our B Ready Stroller and the Marathon G3 Convertible seat at our shower last weekend. Love them both!

  • We got a Britax Advocate 70-G3. We are skipping the infant bucket entirely.

Last I heard, the Foonf wasn't out yet... the release date keeps getting pushed back.

  • We had the snugride 22 for both kids as infants.  DS got a Britax Marathon when he outgrew the bucket, which we liked, but when DD came it really is a big seat and we didn't want the 2 car seats to take up the whole backseat.  So we got DD a Sunshine Kids Radian 65 (they no longer make this one).  Now that #3 is coming, we are trying to fit 3 kids across in our CRV, so we got DS a Radian (the Diono Radian R100).

I really like the Radians.  The are smaller so an adult can sit between the two seats in the back (or you can fit 3 of them across a regular back seat).  They are also lower to the seat, so it is easier for both kids to climb into the seat on their own.  They are super heavy to carry, which is I guess because they are a steel alloy frame, but if we ever get in an accident, I will be happy knowing those seats are so sturdy!  They fold up flat to take on an airplane (we haven't done this yet, but it is a nice feature), and you can buy straps to carry it like a backpack, too.  The only problem we have had with them is that they are so low to the seat, when rear facing the seat hits the front seat back.  DD could only be on the passenger side because if she were behind the driver there was no way the seat could be as far back as it needed to to drive comfortably.  I don't remember this being a problem with DS's rear-facing Marathon (which was behind the driver).

We also have an Evenflo Titan to keep in DH's car, which we both HATE.  It feels very flimsy and the straps are constantly getting twisted.  It is also hard to get both kids in and out of the seat.  But it was cheap - that is why it is in DH's rarely used car!

  • Britax Marathon has been my fav seat so far.  We also have a Radian and it is a pain in the a** to install.  I can get the radian in my Pathfinder, but it is terrible in DH's Toyota Echo and the Grandparent's Nissan Sentra.  I would go for the Britax for ease of use, safety, and nice look.  Ease of installation!  Then only reason we went for a Radian was for three across, which is proving useful!
