mastitis maybe - help?!?!?!?

I stopped breastfeeding on Tuesday and all of a sudden my right boob is killing me.It's a sharp pain, that feels like it's kind of underneath nipple as well as below it.  I'm not feeling any clogged ducts, but it's EXTREMELY tender to the touch.  My bra and nipple pad are killing me right now and they're barely rubbing against the nipple. .

Do you think this is mastitis?  What do i do?  I've already got a call into my doctor, and I've already taken one of my oxycodone (leftover from the csection) and I'm absolutely miserable.

  • Mastitis will have you feeling like you have the flu. You will most likely feel sluggish, have a fever and possibly chills. You likely have a plugged duct.

  • Sounds more like thrush than mastitis... possibly ductal thrush.  Are your nipples bright pink?  Try lotrimin or monistat on your nipples, it'll help if it's thrush.  If that doesn't help by Monday, call your OB.
