Hurricane Babies

I believe there were a bunch of May Moms that had Hurricane Irene babies. Do you think July is going to end up with Hurricane Sandy babies?

Are there any fellow east coasters left in May? If so are you getting ready for the storm? We already planned on going grocery shopping tomorrow so I'm going to pick up a few extra things just to be prepared.  I'm not looking forward to how nuts the grocery store is going to be. I'm mostly worried about all the milk in my freezer. I put my family on notice that if anyone has power and I don't for an extended period of time I'm commandeering their freezer.

Re: Hurricane Babies

  • I was thinking about more hurricane babies, too!  We live on the East Coast, but where I'm located, hurricanes are usually just rain storms.  We also live very close to the electric company in my area, so we never lose power even when everyone else does around us.  I'm not doing much to prepare.  I might buy some snack foods, lol.

  • We live in the more populated part of town. The five years we have lived here we have never lost power for more then an hour. However, my boss lost power for a week in the last bad storm. I will probably make sure I have junk food too and maybe rent a movie. Most of the time I have electric but no satellite.
  • I'm on Long Island and only two blocks away from the water. Anything above a cat 1, we have to evacuate. We will bring the two rabbits to my parent's house and the dog to my inlaws since they all live in the middle of the Island. We can stay at either house or my sister in law's. After Irene, we had a week long mandatory evacuation of the town due to down power lines. We returned to find our house was robbed blind. If Sandy is a TS or a cat 1, I'm guessing my husband is going to stay here while I go to my parents. Anything worse, I will make him leave and we'll return as soon as the storm is over.

I'm betting there will be a lot of babies named Sandy coming next year!

  • We found out we were pregnant during Irene. I just got back from the grocery store. It is already crowded. I had to buy diapers. If our power goes out I won't be able to wash our cloth. Thinking about just putting him in sposies starting tomorrow. I don't want any dirty cloth diapers hanging around until our power comes back. Yuck!
  • I went out today to somewhat get ready.  We already have food in the house but I got more formula, baby oatmeal and nursery water for LO.  I could care less about myself but I didn't want to get caught running low on food for baby.  I think my H and I are still too tired to accidently make a July 2013 baby.  Lol.

  • so funny...Our DD is totally a hurricane Irene baby! If it's bad like they are predicting there will probably be a northeast surge in July.

  • Melissa that is awful that your house got robbed last year. Hopefully that doesn't happen again. That is so scary.

The grocery store wasn't as bad as I was expecting. DH just has to get the outside of our house ready and I'm going to my parents to get their house ready. They are currently in Illinois visiting family.

  • We found out I was pregnant while cleaning up from flooding last year from issac. Our back yard had 12 feet deep and a lot of people down the road from us lost everything. We lost power for a week.
We have a generator this time, and I already have a good stock pile of food. We have cleaned gutters and are watching the storm to see if we need to empty our shed. But this awful feeling of fear is high here.
