Did you have sutures or staples?

I had requested sutures and I was very happy with the results.  I had a lingering cough that was still there after I delivered and I felt so much better knowing I had sutures.  My nurse came in and asked to take out my staples and I told her I had requested sutures instead and she said, "Good for you!"  Whatever that meant!

I did have a friend that had both (2 seperate deliveries) and she didn't notice a big difference with one vs.the other.

Re: Did you have sutures or staples?

  • I had staples. It was weird to look down and see them, and weird to think, "I'm being held together by staples." It wasn't that bad, though, they did snag the mesh underwear a couple of times while I was in the hospital.

  • I had staples. They were fine, and I healed great. Four years later the scar is virtually non-existant.

  • I had dissolvables and steri-strips with my first c/s, then staples and steri-strips when the staples came out with the second.  My doctor prefers staples for 2+ c/s.

I did not notice a difference.

  • I had staples. I wasn't happy about them at the time, but my incision has healed up really well - 2 weeks out I can barely see it ! I had 0 pain at my incision site (other than the obvious muscle pain), just no "external" pain. No itching, no oozing, etc. I was anti-staples, but I'm a convert now.

  • Neither. Just steri strips, and my recovery was not good.

  • I had staples that the nurse removed the day I was discharged. I was so nervous about getting them removed and if I was going to 'bust' open. But the nurse said everything was ok, that the Dr had also put 'liquid' staples... and it looked just like super glue across my tummy... it later disappeared/ fell off as I healed.

I don't have anything to compare it to but I was pleased w/ my 'battle scar'. :)

  • I had staples. I had an unplanned c section so I had no idea what they were doing to close me up. After she was born and they were closing me up I asked how long it would take for the stitches to dissolve and they told me I had 18 staples. I was super freaked out. Everything healed incredibly well and my battle scar is fading nicely.

  • First 3 - staples

    c/s #4 - sutures

I don't notice a difference. I did keloid the first 2 times, but since I didn't the 3rd time, it wasn't the staples......

  • Staples that were removed day 4 before I left hospital and replaced with steri strips.  I was dreading their removal but it wasn't bad at all- getting the steri strips off which were still stuck on three weeks later, was way worse.

Everything healed beautifully and my scar is non existent.

  • Internal staples.

  • I had staples this time and dissolvable stitches the first time.  I would much rather do dissovable stitches again just because you don't have to get them removed.  I didn't have issues with my staples though.

  • Neither, my OB uses medical-grade super glue, LOL.  Same process with both c/s, recovery has been perfect both times (well, problems were self-inflicted b/c I overdid it and/or chose to ignore explicit instructions the first time around).

  • Staples, I don't believe I was given the choice but I remember my OB explaining why she preferred staples.. (I don't remember why, honestly at the time I didn't care).  Mine were taken out on day 3 PP and replaced with steri-strips, and I was given lots of extra steri-strips to take home with me.  My scar is still pretty visible 2 years later, but I never had any problems at all with healing or pain so I'll take the scar :)

I had staples and then 4 days pp they removed them and they put on steri strips. I will be 4 mths pp on Sunday and my scar has faded a lot and is not very noticeable. You can't tell where the staples were at all.

This, except I will be 3 months pp on Tuesday.

  • I had staples and no complications. My scar is pretty much invisible now.

  • I had staples and my incision healed gorgeous. Glad my doc went with that instead of stitching.
  • Neither, just medical grade glue. It was totally awesome. You can barely see my scar at all, I had no pain or discomfort, the million layers of glue they laid on protected the sensitive area a bit from rubbing, AND I was able to take a shower first thing the next morning, which was definitely the best part!
  • Staples.  They were removed and steri-strips were placed on the day I went home.  My scar healed very well and is almost invisible now.  I had the choice of either and as nurse myself that's what I chose.
  • I had staples.  I had to keep them in for 3 extra days after d/c from the hospital, a few of them were starting to get healed over byt time they were removed.  OMG did that hurt when they took them out. :(
