We did a big 1st birthday in a rented room and did food ourselves. Then for 2 & 3 we did just grandparents at our house. He didn't seem to mind or care that it was small. Well, not this year, he's been talking about a party non stop! His bday is right after Christmas. We were thinking bounce house but you pay for the kids, adults can jump too but then you are stuck paying for anyone who jumps which gets way too expensive. He goes to preschool and has 17 kids in his class and I think I'd have invite all of them? Could I just invite a few and then family? I guess my question is at 4 yrs old as a parent would you just sit back and let them jump? Or would you have to follow and pRticipate? Is 4 too young for this type of party?
any other ideas? Chuck e cheese is way too much money and we've been to Gymboree ones and I don't want to do that. Would you go to a schoolmates indoor pool party with people you don't know and swim with your kid?
Re: 4th birthday party, what to do?
We're planning on doing DS' 4th birthday party at this local gymnastics studio. We can either have one of the instructors lead the group in varios activities, or just let the kids run wild (but then we have to be out there supervising).
I don't think 4 is too young to be going on the bounce houses alone. I think you'd want people to keep an eye on everyone, but I wouldn't think a parent would need to follow and participate.
I have also been to indoor pool parties with DD which were fun as well. But then, yes, the parent will have to get in the pool.
I don't think you'd need to invite everyone in his class. I would pick a few of his close friends and stick with that, but then of course you won't want to hand the invites out in class.

My easiest parties were at Build - A - Bear. I scheduled it at 1 or 2 on the afternoon ( after lunch) and when we were done building our bears we would go to the food court for birthday cookie cake around 3 ( snack time) and open presents. This way I was not stuck serving a bunch of people food. And I did not have to do goodie bags because that is what the bear was.
I had parties here at ages 5 and 7 with friends and at 3 and 6 with family. I think it would be good for ages 3-9. It's the best party!!
Another good place is a yogurt or ice cream place.
