About this storm? The map I just saw is saying that the mid Atlantic is going to see 714 inches of rain and stronger winds with longer duration than last years hurricane Irene. I am now officially freaked out. We lost a HUGE part of a tree last year that just missed our house. We are surrounded by gigantic old trees. Not to mention we lost power for 5 days last year. Except of we lose power this time it's going to be in the 40's, so super cold! I have 26 gallons of water but I feel like we need to do more to prepare. I need to go pick up some food thing and want to get the laundry/cleaning done.
Am I the only one freaking out?
Re: Anyone else in the midAtlantic/north east worried?
Crap, now I think I am going to check my yard while DH and DS are out picking up a cell phone car charger for my mom and driving to her house to take her table inside.
Oh and I think I'm going to do my laundry too so that I have clean clothes

That is great. My husband's flight was canceled for the way home do he cancelled the trip, he did not want to be stuck away until probably Thirsday with us expecting power outages, he said it is one thing to happen while he is away buy another thing to go knowingly.
My work is being assey and hasn't closed yet. Our county is closed. Our local base is closed, which is who we work for. And we are right on the water soooooooo yeah, not cool.
A side note I never understand why people buy lots of bread for a storm. Won't it go stale in the same time it would have if there wasn't a storm? Are you going to increase your intake of bread significantly? Why do you need so much bread? No snark intended, I just never got it!
sandwiches. lots of sandwiches. they require no cooking, and require little to no refrigeration.
When Ike hit Houston a few years ago all of the bread at Super Wal Mart was gone, with the exception of the "double fiber" bread. It was hilarious. There was a completely empty aisle with one narrow section that had not been touched.
I guess people also didn't want to stock up on TP.....;)
Now that the storm is closer, but not officially "hit" in my area, everything is closed. Except for my job. I guess I am surprised since all Federal offices, schools, bus systems, metro, and daycares are closed. At least the roads were clear of traffic when I came into work this morning.
Stay safe!

That is hysterical. I also live in NJ and Walmart was out of bananas. As for bread, it stays good for a scary amount of time these day they are obviously putting different preservatives in it and like someone said above you can make easy sandwiches. If we lose power and all our fridge/freezer food then you still have bread.
The thing I do not understand is the need for cash, if we lose power I have a feeling no stores will be open as cash only since they need electricity to operate. We did get 100 just to have though , lol.
