Because Oliver Patrick made a very early appearance. I went into labor at 23 weeks on our move from Illinois to Colorado. Two hospitals and lots of drugs kept him in for another week, and then on August 28 he was born, weighing 1 lb 5 oz.
After a rocky first couple of weeks from the infection we were both battling, Oliver is actually doing pretty good. He's 8 weeks old now (32 weeks gestational age) and weighs 3 lbs 3 oz. He will continue to have problems with his lungs; he's been diagnosed with Chronic Lung Disease, but he's really doing well. We're hoping to have him home for Christmas - they said babies this small can usually go home around their due dates if there are no major problems.
Has anyone else delivered yet?
As a side, the infection that caused preterm labor was listeria, from eating either deli meat or hot dogs. I had both. Because I'd eaten both my first pregnancy and was fine. So, as rare as it is, it does happen. I'm only the second case the high risk dr who delivered for me had seen.
Re: I haven't been on here in a couple of months
Make a pregnancy ticker
1st- I'm glad to hear that you are ok and that Oliver is making good strides
2nd- I do know someone who lost a pregnancy (at 17 weeks) due to listeria. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, and thank you for sharing!
please keep us updated
Congratulations on Baby Oliver. I am glad he is doing well and making good progress to be home by Christmas. I am sure with a major multi-state move happening as well, it was a whirlwind experience!
I know that a few other December Moms have delivered as well, myself included. My Ethan made his appearance at 29 weeks, 6 days on September 25th (my blood pressure was sky high that morning and I had been in the hospital for five days). My LO now weighs 3lbs, 13oz and is a month old. The expected time for him to come is between Thanksgiving and his due date (December 5) :-)
The hospital I first went to I really liked. After 4 days I was transfered to a hospital with a level 3b nicu. I felt like my care wasn't as good, but the nurses and dr's in the NICU at UCH have been so wonderful, and I really feel like Oliver is getting the best care possible. Unfortunately, we live in a far west suburb of Denver, and the hospital is in a far east suburb, so depending on traffic, it's anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half to get out there (THREE hours when Obama or Romney are in town and they shut down 70 - grrrrr!).
Welcome Ethan, and congratulations! That's wonderful that you're looking at bringing him home in about a month.
Hope your sweet baby can go home for Christmas!
