April 2013 Moms

When EDD changes

At my first ever u/s at 6 weeks, my EDD was April 21st which is exactly on the money per my sexy time, etc. info.

On the paperwork from my NT u/s on the 15th, when I was 13w1d, it said I was measuring a week ahead and EDD April 15. Anyway, even if that's not truly the case based on conception, I was just curious if doctors switch anything around, etc. regardless. Wasn't a question I had 8.5 yrs ago with DD.

Re: When EDD changes

  • My EDD the doctor gave me based on measurements doesn't match my last period by two weeks. He said regardless of what happens in the future, that he will never change my EDD. I guess all docs are diff.

  • My EDD according to my LMP was only 4 days off what they gave me at the dating u/s we had around 10 weeks. In the grand scheme of things, 4 days isn't that big of a difference, so I stuck with what the u/s tech told me based on measurement.

  • Some research say the earlier the u/s, the more accurate the dating. Others say that around 10-13 weeks is when it's most accurate.

Regardless, doctors usually won't even change your EDD if you are measuring within a week of your original EDD. If you are certain of your conception date and that it matches your first EDD, I'd stick with it.

this.  My ob won't change mine unless I am measuring a week ahead or behind...but I think I was only 3 days behind at 9 week appt.

  • My original due date was April 15th. My ultrasound had the baby measuring a week ahead, so they changed my date to April 9th. Lucky me! I honestly think the reason they changed it was because I am high-risk and will deliver early anways.

  • Talked to my MW about this today actually.  She said if you have an u/s before 12 weeks, they go with that date.  If you have one between 13-20 weeks, it has to be more than 8 days off for them to switch your EDD.  And after that, I think she said it needs to be more than 2 weeks off.

So that is at least the policy where I go.  I would assume it would be similar other places.

  • Thanks ladies!

I had my first US to get a definite date for them since I didn't have a LMP to go by.
