Exercising

Anyone else having struggles with exercise? I have been so tired and cant find the energy after work to run. I have been an avid runner for 2+ years and I LOVE it, but I don't want to stress our baby. Anyone else had this same problem? What did you do?

Re: Exercising

  • Ugh. I'm right there with you.  I felt better yesterday and today, so I was able to walk for like 45 minutes - that was huge.  Before pregnancy I was a 4-mile a day walk/jogger.  Now, I'm a couch potato who hangs out over the toilet....  Good luck!

  • Yep, I used to exercise all the time but I just don't have the energy now.

  • I finally got my butt off the couch, this evening, and did an hour of yoga. It seemed like the perfect combo of exercise and stretching.

  • It's so easy to put it off.  I keep saying I'll do it tomorrow.  And then I've found I've totally missed a run.

I'm just too wiped out.  Oi.

  • Yes! I used to look forward to my 2 times a week light weights session, and used to run about 2 miles each day. Now the thought of lifting anything besides my water bottle makes my arm muscles ache, and I feel more exhausted after I have climbed my stairs then I ever did after a good run.
  • It's the last thing I want to do but I force myself to go to the gym at least 3 days a week. I go in the morning so it's done with. I'd like to walk daily too but that hasn't been happening! The bump and my tv are just to distracting!

  • I too used to be a serious runner but that was about 3 years ago - prior to Baby #1. When I first got pregnant with him I ran up until about 10 weeks then just felt uncomfortable (and exactly the same as you in regards to stress).  At 8-10 weeks I switched to prenatal yoga and walking and continued this until I became severly anemic around week 18.

I didn't work out the rest of the pregnancy (I couldn't with the anemia) - and I learned to find joy in short walks at my lunch break and stretching exercises in the evening.  I just tried to embrace the pregnancy for what it was and enjoy the 'break' from my workout regime.

Fast forward to today.  I don't work out much as I am chasing after a toddler most of the day and any spare time I have is spent cleaning up or preparing for the next day or sleeping.  But the first pregnancy was a good lesson for me...I found doing "ambient" exercise all day is almost as good as a "workout".

I'm currently 5 lbs less than I was before I got pregnant with Baby 1 when I was a running machine.  I still don't fully understand it.....but now I just eat smarter, park farther away from stores, walk up stairs, schedule 'active' play dates and try to incorporate exercise into my life.  On days I'm tired then I just do the opposite :)

I hope this helps in some way.  Good luck finding something that works :)

  • I haven't had trouble time making myself do it but I have been getting so tired while I have been exercising.  It feels a lot harder than it used to.

  • I haven't worked out in over a week and when I did last week it was only once - and only yoga! I am so tired and I am way to nauseous in the morning to work out right now. I used to get up at 4:45 every morning and work out - now I need every extra minute of sleep! Hoping it changes soon and I can be at least somewhat active in a few weeks
